Im tired of hearing all the corporate whoring and fanboyisms for and against companies. (Except against sony, but its still not good) A product should be weighted on its merits and not its manufacturer.

Gears of War is totally awesome. It's nice to play a game that actually DELIVERS on the hype.

I just finished it on Hardcore today. Looking forward to going through on Insane with co-op. :)

there's a good graphical comparision between the '360 and the PS3, here.

while not absolutely definitive, it does get you thinking.

That he loves big, muscular, musical black men? Or Gears of War?

Anywho, its an awesome piece of hardare, so long as you don't have a glitchy one. XBL is fantastic for content delivery, worht checking out of you got a Trial Card.

The new Rainbow 6 is decent, got alot in common with Gears.

I'd suggest that and the following:
Ghost Recon- excellent split screen and online support, great game SP.
Fight Night 3- probbaly the best fighting game i have ever played, and yes, I think I like it more than Soul Calibur)
Call of Duty 2 as a rental, then Call of Duty 3- Both excellent WW2 games, CoD3 has better ionline multi, both are really well done sp.
Oblivion- if you didn't have a PC that could run this, now is the time to get it. It runs like butter on the 360
Test Drive Unlimited- I think this is my favorite racer, NFSMW is good, and so is PGR3, but Test Drive seems to have so much more to do. You'd be well served with any of those 3 racers
Rockstar's Table Tennis- Yes, I said it. Its not a particularly deep game, but its really well executed and you should be able to find it cheap, and the online multiplayer is done really well.

Other stuff I have played:
I enjoyed The Outfit, but its short and not terribly complicated. Quake 4 was good if you liked earlier Quake games, mostly for hte old school multi, and the bonus disc has Quake2 which you can play 4 player split screen. Far Cry is decent. I'd avoid Perfect Dark Zero.

Alot of people like Chromehounds, but the single player was abyssmal, and you kinda had to play it to unlock the stuff in multi. I thought Dead or Alive 4 was really sub par, only get it if you are a fan and like soft core porn. Its just not that good a game.

Of course, now you have access to the Halo2 and a bunch of older Xbox titles (Crimson Skies, etc).

I have to agree with you Inq, its an awesome piece of machinery. The only thing that bugs me is that its loud as a car when i am playing it. Graphics are cutting edge in GOW especially on a HDTV. I am thinking of buying the Pro Evolution Soccer 6 and Call of Duty 3 when I have the money.

I'd skip PES6; by all accounts it's been massively trimmed from the current-gen/old-gen versions.  By all accounts Dead Rising is superb, though.

QFT. It's like candy crack. And it's probably the best looking game on the system.

Ah, I see that you got a 360 with a hitachi DVD drive. AKA, the jet-taking-off-loud one.

<3 Cole.

Ok, I'm gonna rant....

From this pic you see this pretty awesome looking dude, with great lighting, showing off an impressive system. But...

Check out his arm clipping through his armor, does his vains ever move in and out as he moves his arms? Does he flex his biceps? Or is the texture just allways there. Same thing with the COD3 screenshots, looks good, but does uniforms ever stop being rippled? With the awesome graphics, these little details are really starting to get anoying as they are so much more ovious.

It would be so much cooler if they started paying attention to these smaller details, because the uncanny valley is really starting to show up.

I wouldn't expect that sort of thing until next-generation. That's moving into CG territory.

I think it's still a valid consideration, though.  There was a demo a wee while back by a guy working, umm, at a university in New York; he created a very simple, low polygon face model and programmed a series of blendable, natural emotional reactions (I think they used this stuff in HL2 later on); whilst it was a crude and unlifelike model, the effect was far more convincing than many far more detailed game (and otherwise) models.

(obviously, it's worth remembering uncanny valley plays there too; the cartoonish style of a low poly model is more 'accepted' than something more detailed)

In any case, surely it's more fun to pick on the barely concealed homo-erotocism of Gears of War than the graphics? :drevil:

it's DBZ logic, the veins raise up highly visible like if he so much as moves his pinky finger.  :p

Since they only time you ever see Cole like that close up and still is in still shots, it doesn't bother me. Yo unever see him long enough to care whther his veins are bulging as he moves ;)

At least the clipping tells you its not pre-rendered ;)
