Possibly one of Setekh's early renders in which he made a light a primitive with steel texture by accident and it still shone brightly. Hence, hard light.

Going out on a limb 'Hard Light' has been used as word for solid projections/holograms. So the Hard Light Array is where the original crew got together to conjure up some creative projections of their own.

Bing!   Well, almost. Correct in that we took the concept of 'Hard Light' being a solid hologram (we first heard about it from Rimmer in Red Dwarf). We thought that was cool and added the Productions on the end.   (When I say 'we' I mean Thunder and I, way back in The Beginning.  )

And, as for the bit on the Array, that's actually a bit younger than HLP itself - some six months after we opened HLP, I came up with the idea of the Array. I then catalogued all my renders into it and have done so ever since.   The name 'Array' stemmed from me being an AWACS, but fit conveniently in with the idea of a render archive... so, I stuck with it.

Ah, yes, I remember when the Array was born.  Way back in the day, when we still had to take Elysiums to school and Apollos to battle young man.  I remember(and still have, I do believe) the Terran Pride Render.
