Na, it's working fine for me too. That's sort of odd though since your connection is a lot better than mine. I suppose it could be a great number of things, but it sort of depends on your browser, settings, and your PC I guess. :o

hmm,

I tried it both in the latest IE and Firefox and they both do the same thing. This is the only site that seems to do this. any one hae any ideas? the only way I can get to the site (sorta) is using a cached version from google.

M.blitz

It's been working for me for a long period of time... I suppose you could try clearing your cache, then revisiting...

I've cleared my cache, reinstalled both browsers....no change.

Here is what the complete message I get says.
"The connection has timed out  The server at www.wcnews.com is taking too long to respond.

    *   The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
          moments.

    *   If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
          connection.

    *   If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web."

I've tried it with the xp firewall on and off same message.

When I try to go to the page there is no activity on my c/modem.
this is the only site I know that this happens to.

is there a difrent url or does anyone know the ip address so i might try and connect that way.
does anyone  have the email address for the site Admin so I might ask him about the problem.

Try hitting refresh about a gazillion times?  IIRC, Windows caches bad DNS lookups, as well as good ones.  So, if the site was down temporarily (or your DNS server blinked a bit, and the backup one did the same), then Windows would nicely cache that the page doesn't exist anymore, and you could not access it.  Try hitting refresh about 15-30 times, see if it will try again.  IIRC, the bad DNS cache is cleared after 15 times.  (I can look this up when I get home.) Actually, I just used Google.... try opening a cmd prompt and entering:
ipconfig /flushdns

I've been trying for about 3 weeks. so I don't think clicking on it a bunch of times will change anything(tho for the heck I did just try it about 10 times and no difrence), I tried the flush dns no change.

This should not make any difrence but heres what I am running.

P4 2.4ghz 800 FSB , 1gig ddr, about 800gig hd, ati 9800 asus with 256megs ram(paid $650 for that about 2 ears ago).

There's not been any downtime in recent months. It's possible that your IP address is blacklisted because someone (not you) tried to guess a login/password. You can try to get a new IP by disconnecting/resetting your modem or you can PM or e-mail me ([email protected]) your IP address and I'll look into it.

hmm, I wrote Comcast about it they want me to call there TEch line...oh thats gonna be fun...

I have a static ip So I'll find out what it is and email it to you.

Internal or External static IP?  BTW, check your hosts file?  I can't imagine that this would be the case, unless you use ... darn I forgot the name, but there is a hosts file caching util that I used to use with dial up, because it speeds connections, the only thing is, sometimes the IP gets changed, so you're using the wrong IP.  But anyways, it's windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts  check the file in Notepad, see if it has wcnews.com's IP specified... (I really doubt it, but...)

Alls fixed It seems someone had this ip before I got it(I've only recently switched to hspeed) and it was blocked as someone was trying to get into the wcnews.com ftp. But thants to  Kris of wcnews.com everything is fixed.

It still doesn't work for me. I took the refreshing idea a step further and did it 60 times, but nothing happened. I won't tamper with my IP or DNS since past experience has equated doing that into 4 following weeks of tech support trying to figure out how to get my possessed wireless connection back up. :p I read something about clearing caches? What does that do and how does one do it? :blah:

Edit: urgh... not only didn't it work, but I had to re-enter login information for 12 forums and lost my website history :D

Try pinging the site.
Open a command prompt window (Win XP, Start > Run > type "cmd" > press Enter; Win 9x, Start > Run > type "command" > press Enter).

Type in
ping www.google.com
and press enter, except replace www.google.com with the site you are pinging.

If it returns 4 values, then you can connect to the site at least.  If it returns 4 timeouts, then you aren't connecting to the site or the connections are being refused.

... and then I realize that I'm in the wrong thread, since wcnews.com never stopped working for me.

Here's a link to the thread I meant to post in: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,47683.0.html

If I'm not mistaken both the wcnews and wcsaga sites are up and running, but while wcnews is accessible for me and wcsaga responds to my pings, I only recieve a 404 error when I try accessing it.

I hope this is a bit less murky now, otherwise at the rate we're all getting confizzled here Tolwyn's going to have quite the headache by the time this all gets straightened out. Eek though, I'm dragging it off subject with this different, only vaguely-related problem. :nervous:

Edit: in responce to the following post, I've deleted my browsing history (including cookies and forms), deleted my SSL cache with "SSL clear state," and tried a number of other things. I'm going to laugh when an outrageously-easy solution or flaw in my approach is found, but in the meanwhile it won't cooperate with me.

Which browser are you using?  Try another.  This shouldn't make a difference, but it might... *shrugs*
