Not just for TI - this is intended for the media VPs to be used to display cockpit models instead of  the current "show ship" method (unless "show ship" is turned on for that particular ship).

The idea is that there be an in-game option for turning on visible cockpit models, and if that option is turned on, this POF will display as in the screens, and the HUD will switch to the one we're designing now.

It will definitely need a coders help there though.

Oh, and I expect I'll use it in some of TI's cutscenes though - that was one of the reasons I put a lot of effort into texturing the rest of the cockpit nicely. ;)

can you remove those two sticks sticking out of the cockpits upper level? (i think it might be a HUD panel remnant)

No because they _are_ the hud panel frames - which is still going to be nessecary. ;)

This sounds like a pretty good idea, but you have to remember that FreeSpace ship cockpits have wildly varying shapes. What works for an Apollo might not work for an Erinyes or anything Aldo makes (all those struts...).

I think that would require some creative coding or LUA scripting.

Errm, I'll have to work out how to get them working.

The only real solution I see is individualized cockpit models, as ships have cockpits of wildly differing sizes, and some that have  completely unorthodox shapes, like the Boanerges.

On some level it will have to be individualised, but creating custom cockpits like this one here is more work than building an entire HTL fighter, so doing this sorta thing on a per ship basis isn't the way to go about it.
Perhaps creating different ship cockpit frames on this cockpit model and having them as subobjects that either the game or a LUA script can control would work.

Ie, if the script detects that the ship is say, an Ursa, it hides all cockpit strut subobjects but the Ursa's. It would default to no struts.

The thing is, an Ursa's cockpit is taller, longer, and wider than an Apollo's, and the Apollo seems to be the main reference for FS cockpit design.

Amazing dude !! I think in a near futur we could have 3D planets with the possibilities to travel into system to another like Independance War 2 :p

I was never a big fan of these type of cockpits...  But this one makes me think that yeah, I could use this.

Cobra, Snail - are you high?

WTF are you on about? Shields, Weapons and Engines energy distribution is displayed on ONE place only...and the % bars go both ways. I was saying we can save space buy simply removing one way..there's no need for it..or do I need to make a pic to demonstrate this utterly simple principle?
