take your boards out and check them for bulging or blown capacitors. Creative are infamous for using cheap crappy capacitors prone to early failure on their boards. Some people have had great success recapping their X-Fi and Audigy boards to get rid of the elusive screeching/clicking problems. check http://www.badcaps.net/ forums for some handy info.
