Re: Interplay coming back?
I'd only want FreeSpace 3 if I got the rights for it, and had Pletcher tell me their plan for the story.

Otherwise?

No deal.

Re: Interplay coming back?
i wouldnt ming having fs3 to complete the story. however the fs2 engine would still be my primary mod engine. at least untill they released the source and it gets the same overhaul.
I can no longer sit back and allow communist infiltration, communist indoctrination, communist subversion, and the international communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids.

lol... Yeah hold on

EDIT:
FreeSpace licensing

Smart was reported to be seeking to license the FreeSpace IP to develop a game based on the popular space-sim previously published by Interplay. This sparked a controversy between Smart and FreeSpace fans. Gamespot reported that "Following Bethesda Softworks' acquisition of the Fallout license earlier this week, word spread that cash-strapped publisher Interplay is having a franchise fire sale. The rumors of Smart's involvement started when he posed the question, "Would you buy Freespace 3 if I made it?" on the Adrenaline Vault forums. In the next paragraph, though, Smart clarified his supposition stating that he was only "seriously considering" licensing the FreeSpace engine. However, the very possibility of Smart taking over the series generated a strong reaction, prompting a heated exchange between Smart and FreeSpace fans. The controversy was further discussed in a Slashdot article. In a recent All Games Radio interview, Smart stated why he decided to stop pursuing the license and instead start a new (Galactic Command) franchise.

I'm listening right now, so far (30min into it) He hasn't showed yet :p

EDIT2:  He got tired of the noise "petty noise online"  HE SAID SOME kid followed him around and stalked him (found where he lived) and made threats.  They called it the biggest flamewar in history! :lol:

yeah, it really is.  you can beat around the bush, or dance around the barn all you want, but the point is... if a game makes money, they will continue to make sequels.

there's no conspiracy here.  they're aren't not going to make a FS3 because they're getting paid under the table... the fact is that FS2 was a dead loss for them.  companies that are making revenue in the hundreds of millions don't stop and say "but wait a minute, what if NEXT time we try THIS strategy!".  they just don't do that.  they'll focus on games that continue to make them money.

sad but true :-/

No, since I wouldn't want FS3.

Dear Interplay,

FreeSpace SCP Box Set.

Spend a year cleaning up a selection of the best fan-made campaigns including all the 'official' story lines (like FSPort, Silent Threat, Templar, etc), make it totally noob proof. Maybe some extras too. Optimise for co-op 'Net play CS style.

Sell it cheap. Like, really cheap.

Throw some money at HLP etc for running cost (or take over costs for a couple of years)

I'd buy it, if the box art was pretty ;-)

I'd prefer to leave FS3 alone and let our own campaigns fill the void, but methinks Descent IV would be ****ing awesome.
In my world of sleepers, everything will be erased.
I'll be your religion, your only endless ideal.

This sums up my feelings pretty well.

Code: [Select]
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
int main()
{
    cout << "Input FS3's developer" << endl;
    string FS3;
    cin >> FS3;
    if  (FS3 == "volition" || FS3 == "Volition")
    {
        cout << "\nepic win." << endl;
    }
    else
    {
        cout << "\nYou might as well kill yourself..." << endl;
    }
    system("PAUSE");
    return 0;
}

It was a total loss for them because they set it up to happen that way. They did practically no marketing so not enough people were even aware the game existed. There's really no one to blame for this except for their own corperate idiocy.
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

"corporate idiocy" i believe is the term you were looking for ;)
lol

anyway, now that we're done with blatant hypocricy LOL, sure they probably could've done better, but
a) they won't admit it
b) even if they did, they're not (as i pointed out one post ago) going to take a chance again

Guys you are in the wrong decade! Freespace 3 will be a MMOG where they charge 15 bucks a month and 30 bucks per expansion pack to basically do the same thing as a single player version with multiplayer support! Thats my prediction: the next FS3 is an MMOG with piss poor physics system.
