It's been in there for ages, like Wanderer said. Any of the recent builds or 3.6.9 should support them. You do need to set the mod for FRED via command-line, though; it doesn't use the same registry setting as the main fs2_open.exe (last I checked, anyway).

Well the problem is when I save the mission after using Fred to change the background on a port mission and then it creates errors.

I'm using fred2_open_C02182008.exe
I have windows xp, 2 gigs, blah blah

It keeps talking about the textures and the Orf...

This has absolutely nothing to due with .tbm files.  It's due to a bug in the commenting system that I haven't been able to fix yet.

The short version is that FS2 will handle commenting properly, but FRED won't -- at least, if you try to re-save multiple times.  The easiest solution is to add texture replacement manually, using Notepad, when you're finished FREDding the mission.

Ok thanks, I knew that as soon as they told me that current builds supported tbm files - It's a complicated thought process but let me attempt explaining.

First, I just wanted to change the background of the port but when I saved it hoping my "newer" version of Fred was not buggy - I came across the error... I assume it was caused by what I changed since there was no error before the background was edited.  I then looked for less buggy versions and got errors with tbm files.

I then saved it as another name and got the original file back and was going to use the background converter from the "corrupt mission" and it crashed a whole new set of errors.  I figured since I was using tbm's and the signs were pointing me in that "linear" thought process that it must be the case...

So sorry for the confusion and I'll try my best not to bother you with asking exactly "how" to replace the info I need with notepad because it seems it could be simple - thanks again
