i spent the last hour lighting common household chemicals on fire. ive come to the conclusion that things arent as flammable as their warning would have you believe. though i did kinda get an idea for a liquid fueled rocket engine that runs on peroxide and alcohol. world domination is within my grasp! muahahaha!

Brought back my new PS3 from the store. Didn't work
Then I decided in my infinite wisdom, let's try one more thing. I unplug the monitors power cord, and plug it back in

It worked

This made my entire Sunday insignificant

But on a different note...Every week I use tuesday to do any college assignments that have been set to me last week, that can be put off untill today. My mum knows this and that I have to take the work in tomorrow, but it doesn't seem to deter her from making me go food shopping with her for the next few hours.

On the bright side, tomorrow I'll be finding out what micro-organisms where present in my throat when I caughed into a petri dish last week while I had a throat infection. Once I finish this course, I'm so going to try and bioengineer some Flood.

That's what happened to me yesterday, too. Except I went grocery shopping of my own volition. I need my food!

My new mouse came today.  I plugged it in and the scroll wheel doesn't work.  I did some basic troubleshooting, and after achieving no results, I went to Microsoft's hardware support website to see about getting the ball rolling on a warranty repair/replacement.

I guess they just have a stereotype to live up to.

Chapter 2:  **** the busted website.  Let's call tech support.

Flashing back to the late 1990's, when I identified that there was a problem with my new mouse, I started documenting everything.  I documented the problem, the method of diagnosis, and every troubleshooting step I went through, because the last time I had a faulty piece of hardware, standard practice in the industry seemed to be for tech support personel to keep you on the line for eight hours playing a rousing game of 1001 Troubleshooting Steps (only 998 of which are unrelated to the issue you've described!).

Today, almost as soon as I told them that I had an issue with a recently-purchased piece of hardware, they went into the process of replacing it.  Aside from checking to make sure the PID was under warranty, there were no questions asked, and no additional troubleshooting required.  In fact, I don't even have to send the broken mouse back; they're replacing it entirely in good faith.

I'm kind of taken aback by this episode.  It's just so completely opposite to what I expected, based on (distant) past experience.  I think I'll probably remain in a state of disbelief, until the replacement shows up at my door.

Microsoft usually has decent customer support in my opinion.

This actually makes perfect sense. They products are so faulty that tech support is, by this point, really experienced and effective.  :)
If they had bad products and bad tech support, then they'd lose to Linux much faster.

So Microsoft Works, but its products don't? :p

To be fair, their peripherals have been pretty good for me.  The Sidewinder joysticks of old made me a fairly loyal customer, and while MS hasn't wow'ed me in quite the same way since then, none of the keyboards or mice that I've bought from them in the interim have given any cause for disappointment.  Really, that those peripherals tend to last as long as they have (in the neighborhood of five to seven years), under rather heavy usage is impressive enough.  As long as the replacement mouse doesn't act up on me, I think I'll be willing to write off the broken scroll wheel on this one as a fluke.

(Worth noting here, lest anyone think I'm putting Microsoft on a pedestal, yes, I am aware that in the given time period, Microsoft also gave us Windows ME, several lousy versions of Internet Explorer, the X-Box red ring, Vista's early adopter problems, GFWL, and just when you thought your office productivity suite was safe, the dreaded ribbon.  Research their products before you buy, because when they get it wrong, Microsoft gets it really, really wrong.  Just don't be surprised when they get it right with a line of products, and maybe think about giving them credit, when it's due.  Just a little.  It won't hurt.  Honest.)

Microsoft usually has decent customer support in my opinion.

Having not had to contact their customer support for the better part of a decade-and-a-half, you can understand why my frame of reference could be a little out-of-date.  ;)

Yo! Firstdragon reporting to HLP!

Whew! I typed nearly over two pages today on a dark sci-fi story today and it is getting pretty interesting, actually. I love the main young woman/alien character, Kyral. She barely survived an apocalypse and bad things are drawn to her. She is my second favorite character that I created, the First is Rain Shorn from Etarh.

Thank you for being patient.
A small voice in my head tells me they are have followed us here in the Milky Way. They follow us until we are dead at their feet. We are nomands of the stars, no longer the race that was loved by the Great Elders. My name is Kyral and this is my story of survival.

There is no sanctuary for us, in this Universe. We will fight the Terror for one last time on this Shining World. May the Transcendent judge us kindly in the Life Stream.

Just read the latest chapter in Naruto (Don't know why, seeing as I can barely stand the thing), and apparently, you can drop what appears to be the moon on people using chakra.

I know FlamingCobra flames a lot. But deleting that Halo-Thread just made me mad because I wrote quite a good amount of interesting information about it that is now gone. Thank you, Mr. Moderator FC :banghead:

There was a Halo Thread about the new trilogy (with little and gross information by FlamingCobra in it I wanted to upgrade) in gaming discussion that was erased a few moments ago.
