Nah, that's bull****, socioeconomic status does predict happiness much more than that study indicates. That article is filled with propagandist anti-western BS. (shocker, it comes from the Guardian)

When first world problems are listed, it is of course quite easy to dismiss them as "first world problems", because hey, it's true. It's a silly set of problems to have compared to what is actually happening in, say, oh, NIGERIA, or whatever. Compassion comes when we realise that this doesn't really help the person who is suffering from this feeling of frustration or ennui or basic depression. "Oh don't complain, your life is so much better than that kid who is dying from diarrhea." yeah, that may well be true, and it is true, but that only makes it worse. For now, not only you remain depressed (surprise surprise, it didn't cure you, this knowledge that other people are having it way worse), you even add to your depression a feeling of guilt because
how dare you feel depressed? That kind of compassion is the true sort.
The silly sort is when one tries to equate buying an expensive graphics card with
food or
alcohol to make one's own life more "bearable". It's insulting to the so-called "happy" people in, say, oh, NIGERIA.
