I don't know what triggered it, but the anti-nuclear crusade tried to resurge about a week ago.  I guess there wasn't enough panicking for their liking.  The sad part is some mainstream news picked this up and published it calling the fear-mongers with no formal education in ANYTHING, let alone nuclear science, "nuclear experts."

Honestly, I wouldn't mind the plant going into a meltdown (or any plant for that matter)
To me, it'd be really cool to see what exactly happens. I mean, sure, I've seen the Chernobyl aftermath, but there's something intriguing about it all.

That's my vacation destination really. I would rather go to Pripyat than Hawaii

it DID.  the point is, unless the russians designed it, it DOESN'T kill people when it melts.  (and really, the melting itself wasn't what caused Chernobyl to be such a big problem.  that was the prompt criticality and resulting steam explosion)

When I say meltdown, I mean cataclysmic in proportions rendering the entire area inhospitable for the next many many years

And I am well aware of the events leading up to the Chernobyl incident

a meltdown by itself will never do that.  there has to be something like a fire or explosion to disperse the radioactive material.  short of a nuclear weapon, Chernobyl pretty much IS the worst case scenario.

in other news, i just wasted what would have been a perfect beach afternoon attempting to replace a battery cable terminal in my car.  couldn't, because the ****ed up one on there is crimped on, not just attached with a bolt.  the cable is too short to break and remake, and i haven't got the first ****ing clue how to go about replacing the whole cable.  it seems to branch out to three different places, none of them accessible.  i was all excited about the first car work i was ever going to do myself.  instead i had to settle for cleaning the corrosion off and tightening up the terminal.  to the shop it goes, can't wait to find out how much it's going to cost me.

Replaced the thermostat in my car a week or so ago. Overheating problem seems to have gone away, but I'm still wary.

Also, I'm very surprised as I'm actually on top of my uni work and have started exam study well in advance. Hopefully it all works out.
