It's not just that it's light. Shinedown has had amazing rock ballads. Even some of the last album that was less "hey we wrote a kickass soft song" and more "let's crank out more songs like Second Chance because it smashed" grew on me. But that's not what this new album is. It's just plain pop. Guitar, drums, and bass are an afterthought for most of the songs that are built around production, piano and synth. I'm not trying to dig at you if that's what you like to listen to, but I sure as **** don't, and this isn't the same band that put out Leave a Whisper and The Sound of Madness. Maybe it's time to go look at Fuel, which last I saw is where Jasin and Brad ended up after the split.

This week marks a full month without stable Internet access at home. Turns out not having access to Google Maps when moving in to a new neighborhood sucks. I still don't know where the closest bakery is, or even how to reliably get to the supermarket (nevermind the fastest way to get there). And I'm usually too busy at work to concern myself about it.

Standalone GPS, best thing ever. Won't be able to locate as many things with it as google, but all you need is an address, or even approximate location, to get there once you know about it.

Extra night off work due to the government's ridiculous mandatory 'training' (i.e., powerpoint slideshows) on security and sexual assault and whatnot, along with the training coordinator's incompetence. I wish I hadn't had to drive 50 miles round trip to find this out though. And now play shenanigans with my shifts again to get it straightened out.

By asking the landline telephone company, ofc.

You can try asking any local business to see if you can borrow theirs, but usually if you own a mail box and pay for a landline you'll get a phone book.

I get a complimentary phone book every year, can never figure out how to get rid of the old ones.

[edit]And, if you still can't find a phone book, you could try calling a telephone operator via the 0 key. I'm not sure if this'll work on cell phones, nor am I even sure they still have competent telephone ops that you can ask for assistance.

For the first couple of years I lived in my current apartment, a phone book periodically appeared at our doorstep or by the mailboxes. I just threw it away, but in hindsight it would be a nice backup to have around.

When I've moved the past couple of times, there's been a phone book in the apartment.

Never used it. I think my last time looking something up in a phone book was over 10 years ago.

Today myself and my mum went to visit a neighbor and family friend of over 20 years, for one of the last times. He's been battling Hodgkin's Lymphoma for the last 2 years, and has been told that he only has a couple of weeks to live. At most.

While I am more than a little upset, I left there feeling more humble than anything.

There lays a man in a hospital bed placed in his living room, so weak from all that he's endured that he barely speaks above a whisper. But despite it all, he still has enough strength to give me a strong (read: painful) handshake and pull me in for a hug. And enough bravery to do as he has done for years, and make dirty jokes about my mum's cleavage while his wife and sons are in the room.

I have always and will always hold a lot of respect for this man.

Just noticed that the paint/coating/whatever on my Logitech G502's scroll wheel is showing noticeable signs of wear, and I only bought the thing back in July or August. Not sure what to feel about this, so I'll at least contact support.

I had the same thing happen to a Logitech keyboard - within a few months of fairly light use (less than an hour per day), the letters wore off of several keys. I've had several Logitech mice and never had that issue with the scroll wheel though - very strange!
