Slight nitpicking here. It's not v10. It's 3.6.10. And there are many 3.6.10 builds. But I assume you still mean the one that Turey's Installer downloads.

But "As Lightning Fall" is a line from teh B1bl3, whereas "When Lightning Falls" is not. And even though everyone can indeed identify the mission, it still is always fun to get names correct. You wouldn't like too much if someone referred to you as Sturmkeffler or something.

Just cant seem to make the node in time with that last mission.
Is there a pivotal point in this where I dont get this ending?

Just sit in the node and lob trebs.
Or disable a Cain (either one works), and destroy it when you're in the node.

Eh, actually don't sit in the node and lob trebs. That's really really really lame.
Pilots who protect convoys like that deserve to be left behind in Capella.

Just be aware of where you are. When the convoy with the 4 transports comes in, it's almost time for the big boom. Command is tearing into you when those transports are getting destroyed, but it might be worth it to not help them as much as you could, because if you do, you're dead. Usually.

Then take the second route.
Disable a Cain, then focus on defending the convoys. 

Destroy the Cain when the time is right.

Disable/disarm/neutuer the Melchom and the Bane, then order all your wingmen to ignore them. Then when you feel like it, blast them to pieces.

Dying in the Supernova doesn't mean you lost. It just means you didn't make it. It's a perfectly legitimate ending and in some ways, going down fighting in Capella is more preferable to living to fight another day. In one case, you're a hero. In the other, you're just another survivor.

Going down fighting, I think is a bit of an overstatement. Iirc, by then you should've wiped out most of the Shivans from the field, so its just sitting and waiting for the supernova to smack you in the face.

There's an obvious point in where you don't get that ending: jump out through the node when the supernova starts. It always starts at the same moment: 12(?) minutes after the beginning of the mission. If you want to play it reasonably safe, just keep beating the Shivans up and once 11 minutes have passed, head off towards the node. Then, when you get the warning about the supernova, Alt-J yourself out.
