As far as I can see, many of the modells seem to be completed or at an far stage of development. So the mod seems to make good pace. But what about missions/campaigns? Is this part still in planning? Or is someone working on it now? I know that you probably won´t be able to give a release date but can you give an astimation like "release in 2009"?

They seem to be announcing the progress in the newsletter pretty regularly as far as I can see... and I never kinda understood the burning desire to get an estimated release date, they are rubbish an a project like this anyway - history has shown time and again that release dates tend to only cause disappointments.

We'll notice when it's ready. I much rather follow progress as it happens than wait to a set ETA date and then take a look and notice that it's delayed, as it inevitably would be due to the nature of the work. The only way to ensure that delays don't happen is to set the release estimate date so far into the future that it would be completely irrelevant anyway.

Just sit back, read the newsletters, look at the pretty pictures and play other stuff.

Oh, and this semi-rant is not directed at Knarfe1000 in particular, but to all those people that drop by asking for progress reports and ETA's... I just don't get it. When you think through it - what's the point? :nervous:

Well, the status of the campaigns/missions are my main interest.

We don't have any campaign missions yet. At least not ones that use ships that our leadership approves.

There must be a misunderstanding here. I was referring to the whole bunch of missions that I made using the old "internal-use-only XWA-converted ships."

You can convert ships from XWA to freespace? What genius is this?

Ah, I thought you were trying to take a stab at the models that we're not using again.

I think we need to have a big pow-wow among the team to really iron out a campaign so it's easier to determine what ships really do need to be modeled, and which ones can wait.  More of designing things to fit the story rather than the other way around.  I know in particular that I would like to explore territory that's never really been covered in depth, which would be the events leading up to the secret military build up and formal declaration of the Rebel Alliance and missions from the early days, thus taking place two years prior to the Battle of Yavin.

The issues with this that would arise are the fact that a good portion of the modeled craft that we have, don't exist yet, namely the TIE Interceptor, TIE Advanced x1, TIE Bomber (well, this might actually exist, but the TIE-gt is still dominant), A-wing, B-wing, E-wing, Chir'daki Deathseed, Impstar-Deuce, and quite possibly the X-wing itself pending at what point it began seeing action.

I think that in general, we're all pretty interested in doing the Galactic Civil War as the focus, it's just what part of the war.  The other ideas that come to mind involve the in-between years of Yavin and Hoth which would allow for more of the currently worked on craft to be used.

  • VI OR DEATH! DOWN WITH EMACS!
I'd like to see something immediately post-OT, myself, especially since it looks like the forthcoming live-action series will have a post prequel / pre-OT timescale, possibly altering certain accepted canonical factors, designs, & such?

As a book-fan, I'd like to see something similar to the campaign the Rogues waged in 'Bacta War,' or, alternatively, something similar to the campaign the empire waged under Thrawn, depending on which side is played.

Between Episodes V and VI might be feasible as missions can link directly to events taking place post-Hoth and pre-Endor.  The only issue with following this route is to keep in mind that you already have TWO, not one, but TWO LucasArts flight games that cover this period, that being TIE Fighter and X-wing Alliance and those games pretty much tie into the movies and Shadows of the Empire as it is.  The problem with the post-Jedi is that it's conquered territory from a story perspective to the point where you may as well just start axing out the crap (and God knows there's a lot of crap that needs to be axed out).  I'd feel a little bored if we just rehashed the books as well because it's not really introducing anything new.  The reason why TIE Fighter is hailed as the best of the X-wing series is because out of all the games, while respecting and paying homage to events in the movies, tried to be it's own story and thus wasn't dependent of rehashing battles taken from the movies as their end goal (like X-wing and X-wing Alliance).

imo it doesn't matter. we can't still stick to the tie fighter canon but look at the story from a another perspective. And on the rebel side we could do the same

Just for kicks a "Rouge" Squadron should be included in the game sporting a pimpy pink paint job and taking offense for being mistaken for that "other squadron".
