Yeah. I don't think ramming an Aeolus does anything (other than kill yourself) even if it had no weapons to begin with.

I wonder if I'm the only person out there who would be against such a system simply because I don't play in an open online environment anymore.

Some games I've seen use this as a way to force you to unlock things...

As for the sole purpose of getting a better scorecard... I don't know...
