Re: Join Neo Terra Victorious!
Is there room for another FREDer, or does Romanmolf take the last seat?

Re: Join Neo Terra Victorious!
There's room for FREDders, yeah, but the team would like to have samples of previous work. :)

Is it okay that I use an idea from the Fred Academy for a mission?

No. You may not use any ideas from anywhere.

I'm kidding. Go ahead!

Re: Join Neo Terra Victorious!
I think it's better to send us two or even three samples of missions describing much different situations.

You don't necessarily have to make them from scratch, though - as far as I'm concerned you can use the same sample missions to join virtually any FS project and I don't mind if you've already sent them to another team. The most important thing is that they should express your FRED skills in the most accurate way. :)

Don't rush your missions, either. Give your best and test them extensively(intense testing leads to FRED edits that improve the mission). ;)

I've been working on this for around 3 weeks now. Hope that's long enough :nervous:

Also, can I base the mission on the fs2 campaign?
Spoiler:
e.g. the battle with the Sathanas

Re: Join Neo Terra Victorious!
As in, opening it up in FRED and expanding on it?

I'd say no...

I don't think you need to prove your abilities with a mission about a battle with the Sathanas. Try with something else, if possible.

I lied... (Takes a long time to debug and add final touches.)
I should have it up tomorrow I hope. Then you can have fun  :beamz: the Shivans.

Re: Join Neo Terra Victorious!
Ok, I tested it. Please read carefully:

1) Yours is a scramble mission, this means that I couldn't verify your ability to set loadouts and ships. The mission should have provided info on your FREDding...setting "The Wall" as a scramble mission didn't help;

2) There are a few odd highlights in the briefing and the Knossos is set as unknown. These are minor glitches, though;

3) The mission doesn't use a starfield, which is of common use among FREDders. In order to use a starfield go to Editors ---> Background and write "starfield.pof", without the quotes, near  "Skybox Model" :);

4) I noticed that the Knossos is in the Escort List. Maybe you set this to monitor rebel activity around the portal  in a better way? You could have used a nav buoy to do that. It's only a suggestion, yours wasn't a mistake :);

5) The rebel strike force attacking the Monitor consists of countless waves of Lokis, Herc IIs and Zeus bombers. I've always considered wings with more than 3 waves an example of bad FREDding. The strike force should've been various, with different spacecraft classes attacking in different ways and in different numbers. The NTF had many Hercules, Ulysses and Medusa wings back then - it was evidenced by Endgame - and not only Herc IIs, Lokis and Zeus-class bombers ;);

6) One thing about the mission: it's meant to be the first part of Endgame but I don't see the GTC Fortune. Don't worry, I'm not going to blame you for this... ;);

7) There are no Return To Base, or RTB, directives. They're very important;

8) Brefing and debriefing stages are a bit too short, especially the debrief_success one...important events like the end of the NTF and Bosch's withdrawal shouldn't be explained in 3 lines ;);

9) At the beginning of the mission there's what seems to be a friendly Argo transport among the rebels(I guess it's the NTT Grall). The player can select its name in the orders menu(although he can't issue any orders);

10) I tested the destruction of the Monitor and realized that there are no messages about it. The mission, overall, isn't that chatty. Messages have their importance ;);

11) The failure debrief has no recommendation text(this is only a minor glitch, though :));

12) The mission has the "All Teams at War" flag which isn't needed in single player mode ;);

13) There's no AWOL debriefing stage, which is very important. Check Karajorma's FreeSpace FAQ and the FreeSpace Wiki, they can give you precious hints about AWOL debriefings;

Afterall all I can say is that I'd like to know more about your FREDding skills. You might make the changes I suggested and re-post the mission but I'd encourage you to create another mission from scratch and follow the directives posted above(strike force, starfield, AWOL, messages, etc. etc.). :)

Re: Join Neo Terra Victorious!
The ''no RTB'', ''no AWOL'' and ''no message for Monitor boom'' didn't happen because I don't have the skills to do these. I just ''dang, I forgot!''. In the NTV team the mission would be tested hundreds of times to check the mission out and clean these errors.

Odd highlights? In stage 1 I have the Knossos which is where NTF's aiming and where the GTVA is going to kill'em all. In stage 2 there's the Monitor and the wings, which is what the stage is all about.

The Knossos is unknown because its neither NTF nor GTVA.

Well anyway, I'll fix it as soon as possible.

EDIT: Here  :D

Re: Join Neo Terra Victorious!
I would like to have FREDders that don't rely on testing so much. IMO it's too easy to come out with a simple mission and ask the others to fix it...I've experienced it before and I don't want to experience it again, when possible.

In stage 3 all ships are highlighted, just like in stage 2, which is strange. This is not a major problem so don't worry.

Good point, the Knossos could be unknown, but in FS2 its IFF was friendly. ;)

IMO it's very important to work like a team.

Because :v: made the Knossos friendly, does it mean everybody should?

Re: Join Neo Terra Victorious!
In fact I don't want to discuss about the Knossos' IFF. As I said it isn't important, at least not here.

It's important to work like a team, ok, but are you aware of the fact that it's unfair to let someone design simple missions because there will always be FREDders stubborn and masochist enough to upgrade those missions and delay the release even more?

IMO a FREDder working on a project should be nearly independent. I will probably edit all NTV missions in the future...it doesn't mean I'm willing to do most part of the job simply because my team mates aren't skilled enough to do basic things.

There's no offense, though. :)
