I'm American-born and raised (until age 10). I'm more "proud" to live in Israel than I am to be American. I have my choice of where to live, and I'm perfectly fine right where I am, thank you very much.
Patriotisim is over-rated. C'mon, folks - where's the patriotisim in all the flag-flying and American breast-beating
after a common enemy has shown his face? Yippee - America was attacked, so the Americans now all have more or less the same "love" for their country and desire to see justice brought against those who hurt them. So what - that would happen in
any country that comes under attack - having a common enemy and all that.
It's the pre-9/11 America that shows how "patriotic" Americans truly are. Courage is not standing your ground when you don't have a choice - courage is standing your ground when you have the option of falling back. Patriotisim is the same - show me how patriotic Americans are when they
don't have any special threat facing them.
True patriotisim is showing your love for your country without any special reason to, aside from the love you feel in and of itself.
PS. Sorry for the America-bashing, but I feel that I can get away with it, simply because I'm just as American as the rest of them. So no offense, dudes.
