Since I got the speech issue fixed, I decided to download the latest nightly build of 3.6.10 and all the goodies with mediavps 3.6.10. Looks utterly amazing.

There is a problem. The game refuses to run wide screen, or any other 4:3 size for that matter. My LCD tends to horribly blur any non-native resolution, so it is quite an issue.

When I looked for information about this, I keep on coming up with: "3.6.10 supports wide screen better"
So, I'm thinking either there is something else screwed up (great), it just hates my PC (which is more common then I think) , or it could be the build itself.

I do have a way to solve the stretching and blurring, but it is no better than running it windowed, and is dangerous, due to the instability of Power Strip.

Uh... 4:3 is the old box-ish aspect ratio. Widescreens are something like 16:9, 16:10 and so on.

Anyways, it should work so that you open the Launcher, open the Video tab and select the largest resolution your monitor supports. At least on my end it gladly lists 1280x800, which I, of course, use.

im certain it works , mine quite happily excepts 1400x900 ............... but if your looking for a specific resolution that isnt in there , look in this forum and there should be a post by me ...dumb question but i cant work it out ? ... or something like that and it explains how to use a flag .... res-2400x1800 or whatever .... happy hunting and good luck

In order to get the dumb questions out of the way: do you have your desktop resolution set to 1280x800 as well?

Another thing: All interface art is in 1024x768 resolution, and the resolution setting doesn't magically enhance that part of the game. Try and enter the gameplay itself, then take a look at things and check if the 3D rendered graphics are fuzzy and upscaled or in wrong aspect ratio... easiest way would probably be to press F3 while in the Mainhall, select some ship and see if lines are crispy or fuzzy, or if the aspect ratio is distorted.

Also, I don't know why the "Run at specified resolution" flag has a checkbox, since it needs numerical values for the resolution to actually specify the resolution, so it's much easier to use the custom flags to manually feed that entry... Like this:

-res 1280x800

When it's correctly used, it's definitely not useless.

I never set my desktop below my native resolution of 1280x800, any other resolution and it blurs horribly. I am fully aware that the interface Art is 1024x768. I also notice that going fully in game to the mission does not effect resolution.

There is also a VERY odd bug I've encountered while fiddling with resolutions. Since I forced myself to play it windowed, I noticed that setting 1280x800 actually makes it default to 800x600, not 1024x768, and it still says 1280x800 in the launcher.

But here's the kicker...The game will still default to 800x600 when set to 1024x768.

But wait! There's more! If I set the game to 800x600, it defaults to 1024x768!

Since I have no solid way to check rez so I am not sure if it is 1024x768 and 800x600, for all I know it could be 800x600 and 640x480.

Incidentally, in your other thread I did also take note that according to the fs2_open.log your sparky_hi is empty. I'm not sure how it would affect other content, but it does contain the high-res interface art. Give me a sec, while I split it and upload it. I'll PM you with the links.

the res"whatever" flag works in the features /custom box but then you need to go to dev tools and make sure that run at  specified resolution is unchecked...
i found this when wanting to run on 800x480 when the launcher kept defaulting to the 800x600 setup ..... so just try it .... if you havent already....

Ok...so my FS2 disks are more messed up than I thought. Ah well, at least FS2 is built in a sorta "fail-safe" way, or something like that.

I've had more bizarre port problems, like D2X-XL flipping the intro vid of D2 when at 800x600 on a 1440x900 display.

hey naga, by chance do you have dual monitors of disproportionate sizes? like I have 2 monitors, a dell 17" standard flat screen and a samsung 22" wide screen.

doh ok. I had a weird resolution issue a while back cuz FS2 was reading one monitor resolution and displaying it on the other. That had something to do with the order the monitors were attached to the system.

The cause of the resolution issue was a corrupt vp containing the hi-res interface art. Downloading the vp fixed the issue.
