Just thought I'd give everyone here a bit of an update on what I'm working on.  In order to maintain my own sanity, I've been diverting my time from the ISD to work on this little guy.  You may ask "what was wrong with the old TIE Fighter?"  The answer: Nothing!  Why build a new one?  Because this one is built from more experience than when I did the original, and thus, it's a bit more accurate to the original model at a significantly reduced polycount (about 70% of the old one, yet more detail)

That is one good looking ship.  Also probably the most common one of the era so it's definitely time well spent, even if it lacks the ISD's awe factor.  Great stuff; I can't wait to see them explode!

Hey, how many gun mounts are on that? Four for the four wing tips but then there's another two in the troughs on each wing.

Those chin guns are always there, but there're conflicting sources on whether they work or not.

I didn't even see those ones. That brings the total to 10. I was on about the two pairs on the actual wings. Just forward from where the wings/solar panels are connected to the main body/cockpit.

Just checked... According to wookiepedia (dunno how reliable source that is) the wingtip things are some sort of guns as are the two mounted below the cockpit. However the midwing protrusions are apparently targeting sensors of sorts. So that brings it to 4 + 2

There are two variants of the TIE/In, an original and a Mk2.  The first one had four wingtip mounted SFS L-s9.3 laser cannons but was later modified to use four wingtip mounted blasters and two ball mounted L-s9.3 (or perhaps L-s7.2) lasers cannons.  The ball laser configuration was shared with the TIE/ln Fighter at the time, an upgraded version of the original grey TIE Starfighter.  Better cooling allowed the use of more powerful laser cannons, and equipping the ball cockpits identically made servicing both types of fighters easier on one Imperial deck crew.

At least, that's our retcon anyway.  Doesn't really seem to conflict with any canon information (or cannon for that matter ).
