No offense taken, my family is catholic - that doesn't mean I am.
hehe, similar case with me; everyone in my family is Hindu but I am atheistic.

I personally was brought up with the Hindu religion, but I have always had a tendency to question the "why's" of everything (

) and started thinking about some things I was told. What exactly do people mean when they refer to god? How was god discovered? What lies beyond god? After thinking about this for some time (a bit hard, as like everyone else, I had been trained to think that this was the absolute) I came to the conclusion that god is simply the word people use for two things: the ultimate government for humanity, and the culmination of all knowledge. If anyone has played Deus Ex, you might remember Morpheus saying that people have a need to be watched, understood and protected from the world; this is the purpose of god as a government and why people find comfort in the existence of god. The other purpose that god serves is to account for everything that is not understood by science, but that has begun to diminish with the almost exponential progress in the last century.

As it stands now, logic is my religion.

No offense, but I don't really consider the run-of-the-mill catholic as a true christian... IMHO they've deviated from what the Bible says so much.... bah, it makes me sick.
Well, I think that it has turned out like this because of necessity; although people resist change, it is inevitable to some extent in my opinion, and the people had to keep up with changing times. (mainly due to technological and civilizational progress) Some other things were just changed around because of poor record-keeping and differences in interpretations.
