On widescreen settings, all the HUD elements are stretched. Now, this is not an issue for the most part, since fatter energy management bars and weapon load-out data doesn't look too much different.
However, it's a little distracting on the radar and the shield icons. When spinning around, it's a little odd to have your radar blips move at different speeds depending on whether they're at the 9,3 positions or the 12,6 positions. Also, having really fat-looking ships like a square Herc I shield icon doesn't look too good.
Is there a way for widescreen to use different .ani's for those 2 elements that would result in an unstretched result? (I'm not sure if this belongs in FSU though... A quick fix would be to replace all ship shield .ani's and the radar with pre-squished ones, so that they'd stretch to normal aspect ratio, although that does mean you need a full set of ship .ani's and radars for every screen ratio)
