I think by picking an instantly recognizable ship, you run the risk of branding the site as that universe. Maybe a rotating logo of various ships?

Rather, just come up with your own, yet somehow adding something that instantly relates to SciFi.

Re: StarShips.wikia.com needs a logo
indeed that is my opinion too. as for the logo, I should of mentioned it before.
See the Moloch ripping a hole in that Deimos on the superior right part of the wiki? that's what I need replaced. the ideea with a rotating logo could work.
I will be home in about 3 hours and will give you a helping hand.

Re: StarShips.wikia.com needs a logo
Ok... so we need a list of ships for the rotating logo.

Ones which are well known:

X-wing (Star Wars)
USS Enterprise (Star Trek)
GTD Orion (Freespace)
The ship out of Decent (Does anyone actually know what it is called? Cause I dont) (Decent)
Red Dwarf (Red Dwarf)
Battlestar Galactica (Battlestar Galactica) (Don't you just love it when the show is named after the ship?)

And on a more recent note,

USG Ichimura (Dead Space)
Forward Unto Dawn (Halo)

And more
Imagine awakening, and hearing the heartbeat of the galaxy for the first time.
It is like a cloud, a mist that drifts from living creature to creature, set in motion by currents and eddies.
It is the eye of the storm, the passions of all living things turned into energy, into a chorus.
It is the rising swell at the end of life, the promise of new territories and new blood, the call of new mysteries in the dark.

Re: StarShips.wikia.com needs a logo
well... I dunno...
I agreed more to Stormkeeper, so to come up with our own logo, not take ships from other universes and lumping them all together.
Also, is anyone working on the FreeSpace page on StarShips, as I would like to start working, but I don't want to override with someone.

Re: StarShips.wikia.com needs a logo
You want to make up a ship?

Re: StarShips.wikia.com needs a logo
not necessarily a starship. Something that is related to all the sci-fi universes.

Re: StarShips.wikia.com needs a logo
I think that would be "space" ;)

Re: StarShips.wikia.com needs a logo
could be. also, one more thing. since BlueLion, Stormkeeper and Scotty are helping out with StarShips, I think their opinion counts too, not only mine and Death0angels.
i like the planet idea, but I feel there is something missing to it.

Maybe a planet with an engine trail cutting across part of it.  It gets the "spaceship" message across without having to actually show a specific ship.

Mongooses' idea sounds good. But the trail should be subtle without smacking you in the face.

Re: StarShips.wikia.com needs a logo
maybe you could ask one of the modders to make a model for you... then fred it into a mission and take a screenshot
