This week, it's 24/7 quiet hours. No can do. Hell, no will do either. Most of the Metallica **** sounds horrible, doubly so when your system can replay it with reasonable accuracy. Reminds me of my sister playing Trans-Siberian Orchestra on my beautiful speakers; it sounded worse than crap and was fatiguing to listen to. My general rule of thumb is that if it's fatiguing at low volume, it'll be worse at higher volume. I usually skip or delete what I can't tolerate listening to. The only Metallica album I can listen to at high volume is ... And Justice For All, and even that is rare occasion. Iron Maiden is much better (at least their studio recordings are) and less fatiguing to my ears. Besides, it's not like I have to turn the knob up much; my speakers are pretty efficient. I'm "lucky" to hear 8Wpc, and they're still hooked up to a 160Wpc power amplifier. While not high-end by any stretch of the imagination, it's still better than the cheap receiver I was using before (a Sherwood RX4109).

Three regular semesters a year plus a summer semester. And no, TSO really ISN'T great. It sounds like crap, and that's still putting it nicely. They're not even the same band between two concerts; there's two touring bands and only one member of each group is part of the REAL TSO; the rest are little more than session musicians who are hired for their annual Christmas tour. The only way they sound good are with earplugs.
