well.. i cannot say filtering their results so they can operate in the market is the wrong thing, it was just the necessary thing.

unlike Yahoo, they weren't in the habit of handing over human right's activities email credentials.

I don't think they can "take out" a foreigner.

That's drug smuggling though. Seems like people might get uppity if a Brit gets took out for talking about China's stupid censorship rules and stuff.

Well if you are in China, you have to abide by China's laws.  While China may not execute kara, they may declare him persona non grata and kick him out.

Well to be honest I was mostly trying to pull your leg and China of all places has reason to be twitchy about foreigners bearing narcotics.  But it was important to note from that example that China has reached a position of world political clout that they can tell the West to piss up a rope.  In days past they would have been nervous about ignoring a country like Britain.

I'm glad to see that Google's experiment of 'limited access is better than no access' has run its course to the inevitable conclusion, and that they're (almost certainly) pulling out. Leave the Chinese to Microsoft and Yahoo, and let Google be not evil.

Yes. China is our friend (or owner). The person is question would probably be a human rights activist, and probably a liberal. Fox News would talk about how he deserves it.

2. China backstabs Google by trying to hack their systems to get at human rights activists.
3. Google gives China the bird.

Wow, that's cool. I'm interviewing with them today, and this definitely scores them some plus points. :)
