Error: Windows - No Disk
I've just upgraded my pc, I've transferred a hard disc from my old pc to my new pc with all my FS2 SCP install on it. I tested the set up, everything worked fine. I then installed my own version of XP Professional on it, (all it had on it originally was XP Home Edition). Now when I start the launcher, I receive the above error, underneath this it says "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive" and three options, Cancel, Try Again and Continue. Any ideas why this might be happening?

Re: Error: Windows - No Disk
Try removing launcher6.ini from \freespace2\ .

I'm just guessing, but did the drive letter for the old HDD change when you moved it (as in, from D:\ to E:\ or something)?

Re: Error: Windows - No Disk
That's a no go, as soon as I pick my .exe again (3.6.12 rc1 inf) the error message returns?

It seems to let me play if I click continue, just an annoyance!!!

EDIT* no change in drive letter from disk d to disk d???

Clear out your "recent items" on your computer and see if that solves the problem.
Normal people believe that if it isn't broke, don't fix it. Engineers believe that if it isn't broke, it doesn't have enough features yet.

Re: Error: Windows - No Disk
:wtf: Well this is unlikely. I think I got the same error report just now. Except that I wasn't trying to play FSO: I just turned on my printer.

Re: Error: Windows - No Disk
Maybe it's to do with the fact that this desktop has a memory card reader built in, with no memory cards plugged in maybe this is what you get???  :nervous:

Re: Error: Windows - No Disk
As far as I can tell, this is a windows error message. Searching it via google gives a variety of probable causes and solutions.

Bottom Line: It's a Windows error, not a FSO one.

Wait are you running inferno by any chance?  If so make sure that the data\players\single\inferno directory exists.

Yes I'm running inferno, but it seems, looking at the link The E posted that the card reader is the culprit, although why it only happened when I installed XP Professional him upstairs only knows!

Re: Error: Windows - No Disk
I've begun getting a similar error on Vista (instead of saying "No disk in drive", it says "Exception passing *bunches of memory addresses*"), and I have changed absolutely *nothing* since it was not showing up.

Just fired up a bunch of different programs, and, so far, only FSO causes the error.
Running 3.6.12-INF-RC1 (but the mod is Blue Planet Director's Cut, not Inferno itself).

The error doesn't seem to actually mean anything, though, as everything is running just fine despite the error.

Re: Error: Windows - No Disk
Errors and warnings always mean something.  It might seem to work fine but screw up 2 missions later.

Re: Error: Windows - No Disk
Which is why I said it didn't seem to mean anything. What I meant was that there are no visible effects of the error thus far.

I'm at a loss. Heard it could be caused by malware, but Avast found nothing. There's been no rearranging of drives either. I'm confused.
