Oh, question. Mumbo Jumbo seems crapped, I have completed every objective, got a positive debriefing but still failed. Any tips? Shall I post a log or some specs?

If you are using some of the 3.6.10 branch, try with a newer one.

According to the vid (in the main hall), I was using the 3.6.11 Inferno build.

Re: Co-Let's Play (Suffer) of Second Great War Part 2
I just finished this mission with 3.6.12 RC2. First time through I left before all the bombers were dead, and failed the mission. Next time through I just cheated to kill everything as fast as possible so I wouldn't have to sit through it again, and it worked! I progressed!

Yaaaayyyyyyyy....

EDIT: It's probably just a matter of finishing off all hostile waves before you are "relieved."

Also EDIT: Huzzzzzah. I have completed this campain. Honestly, I wouldn't blame you for giving up where you are guys, it just gets more painful. And then you're just begging for the campain to end, and it just keeps going. And then there are nebula missions.

Speak for yourself.  Some of us very much enjoy it. :p

I believe the same. I will finish Monopoly Tycoon once and for all, then get back to this insanity.

I previously mentioned that I had a couple Freespace 2 related tutorials up. Included is a new FREDing tutorial, VP making, tabling etc. On topic now, i will also try to finish up SGWP2 once i'm finished with Starcraft and other RL duties.

Re: Co-Let's Play (Suffer) of Second Great War Part 2
I've been following the OP's videos. I'm still LOLing about how the ships talk as if they are people. "Sathanas 7: Alpha 1 do you not trust me?"

Personally, I wonder what the mission designer's mindset was when he created this. At first thought it seems as though he was just lazy and decided to put little effort into the campaign, but that doesn't really hold water when you see the length of the backstory he wrote (i.e. those essays in the command briefings). Also the fact that he made 30 missions.

I think he must have just been really young. After all, I myself must have been about 8 or 9 when I started Freespace. I just don't see any other reason how someone could create such a badly designed campaign with such a juvenile backstory, horrible mission concepts, and really bad dialog.

If you can get past the overly complicated parts of the impossible to understand storyline, then you can see how much effort was attempted to be put into that. However, I do agree that the missions seemed very rushed.

I don't know if he was quite that young, but he was probably on the younger side; more importantly, though, this was probably the first campaign he ever worked on.  SGWP2 is kind of the living embodiment of that "supar awesome uber-campaign" that most of us wanted to make after first playing through the games, but swiftly gave up due to lack of experience...only this time, the person actually completed and released it.  It makes for a great teaching example in terms of how not to approach your first FREDding project.

And as I've said in the past, what I find most fascinating about the campaign is that, for all its myriad of storytelling faults, it's completely playable from a technical standpoint; I've seen campaigns with much better stories that come off far worse on that front.  The person who made it obviously had a decent grasp on the workings of FRED and the testing process.  Part of me wonders if the whole thing wasn't just some brilliant parody created by an accomplished FREDder working under a pseudonym. :p

[uber quotestacking]

If you have read the readme it says that "I have done some programming before on the computer and the FRED program was really easy."
Do you think that a youngling ubernerd fits this description?

Could be.  I'm sure there are plenty of teens out there who have grabbed a C book and started teaching themselves.  If the designer was familiar with a language that uses s-expressions, like Lisp, coding events in FRED may have seemed fairly intuitive.  Regardless, I think the important point is the campaign is definitely a first-time effort.

Has there ever been an attempt to track down the author?

Re: Co-Let's Play (Suffer) of Second Great War Part 2
There's not all that much really complicated, FRED-wise. For example:
Spoiler:
In the 'disarm three Sathanas' mission, it doesn't matter how many beam cannon you destroy, or if you fully disarm any Sath. The results are the same: Command briefing telling you how many Collossi you lost. If he had been a real pro, he could have carried over results and let you play the mission where you blow up those three.
That sort of thing happens a lot: He can't figure out how to do something really cool, so he throws 50 fighters at you and calls it a mission.
On the plus side, I learned quite a bit about FREDding from this campaign. Much of which I plan to implement in the ol' dodgy mod.

I loved that mission because it was altruistic to me. It let me pass even though I failed it. Or did I? Does one define "failure" as "cannot pass in the campaign"?

Kinda random but it relates to the LP videos:

Lucika, is it just me, or do all the videos only have sound from one speaker? (The right side IIRC).

Mine? Well, as far as I have seen, my voice can NOT be heard from the left speaker at all :D but the game has sound in stereo.
My voice seems mono, that is all.

I'm tempted to try this out after reading the comments here. :D This might have been one of the first campaigns released for FS2. I remember seeing it on Xanadu's archive only a month or two after FS2 was released.
