Re: Old Campaign Spotlight: Shrouding the Light
I'm glad to see Shrouding the Light get some publicity again; it's Blaise Russell (come back to us!) at his FREDding best, and it covers a rich area of the FS storyline that hasn't seen much community expansion.  It also happens to be the first campaign that I did any VA work for...and I want to apologize in advance to anyone playing it now for my amateurish reading and godawful microphone pop.  Makes me wish I could go back in time to slap myself upside the head and get it right. :p

This is a cool idea for a thread.  If I can motivate myself, maybe I can whip something up for The Destiny of Peace.

STL could probably use a facelift to use the new FSPort 3.2 weapons and interface art.

Oh neat thread.  I'm downloading Crossing the Styx now.
Spoon - I stand in awe by your flawless fredding. Truely, never before have I witnessed such magnificant display of beamz.
Axem -  I don't know what I'll do with my life now. Maybe I'll become a Nun, or take up Macrame. But where ever I go... I will remember you!
Axem - Sorry to post again when I said I was leaving for good, but something was nagging me. I don't want to say it in a way that shames the campaign but I think we can all agree it is actually.. incomplete. It is missing... Voice Acting.
Quanto - I for one would love to lend my beautiful singing voice into this wholesome project.
Nuclear1 - I want a duet.
AndrewofDoom - Make it a trio!

When was Crossing the Styx made? I don't remember it at all..... :nervous:

It's too bad BR isn't around anymore. It was really something when he came out with several campaigns within a few months of eachother......

It was quite recent, actually. Just over a year ago.

Re: Old Campaign Spotlight: Shrouding the Light
Here's another one that was long long forgotten:

"Ancients Demo"

It's so old I could only find a couple of references to it here and here.

Since it was only 2 missions it doesn't really count as a campaign but still, it was pretty neat all those years ago.

Do you have any mirrors and can you provide a short description about its style, merits, shortcomings?

Exactly, I'd love to have a little content on each one.

I wonder if instead of having only one spotlight at a time we should have a library...but maybe the best way to do it would be to have each spotlight as its own post, and then have the first post link to each of them. If we run out of room in post #1, I'll use Mobius' post if he's cool with it.

From what I remember the second mission was set in the Inferno universe where the Ancients come back and are hostile to the GTVA. It's biggest shortcoming is that it is 100% incompatible with any current iteration of FSO, so unless you have some way old builds you'll have to use the retail exe. Originally the Ancients coming back thing was going to be featured in Inferno eventually, but after R1 the team dropped it. Too bad since I was kind of looking forward to it, but I understand the need to focus the mod a bit more.

After doing some more digging I've found that sectorgame is hosting it. The two missions appear stand alone, no campaign file.

Re: Old Campaign Spotlight: Shrouding the Light
Judging from the description, it seems related to Gateways (the Inferno campaign based on the Ancients). Woomeister recently told me that he found half the campaign, and we'd like to make it playable... but we'll need to work with the ASW Team on that.

Kosh, the latest link you provided is marked as illegal... do you mind finding another way to share the missions with us?

It's a simple typo in the URL. I'll fix it.

Woomeister says that is not a demo of Gateways.

Whatever it was, Gateways sounds like a lot of fun.

Mobius do you want to do a writeup of Crossing the Styx to take the top spot?
