I was using "them" as a general term meaning everyone and everything in perpetutity throughout all space, time and dimensions.

What I mean is, why the italics? It totally ruins the phonology of the sentence. "I wouldn't even piss on them if they were on fire" is fine, but them implies there was another group as well?
