I dunno if SMF has such a module, but the bots in general try to fill in every input, including multiple image-reading algorythms for captcha. The trick was to tell the user not to fill in the captcha, while the bot would and thus the bot won't register. It worked for me quite well as it also filtered boons who didn't bother to read what they were supposed to do
