GeForce4 & FS2 -- HELP!!!
I recently acquired a PNY Verto GeForce4 TI 4400.  All my games look great -- EXCEPT Freespace 2, and that is a huge problem!  I've got the newest drivers and DirectX version, but the graphics simply don't look very good and the fonts are messy and pixelated.  I get the same result at 1024x768 and 640x480.  (I have the patch installed, also; I can't think of any updates I could possibly do to fix this).  When I turn on the GeForce4's hardware antialiasing, I get better picture, except that the text's stray pixels have some interesting effects on the AA algorithms and I subsequently get strange lines all over the place.  Has anyone else had this problem?  Interplay and PNY have been absolutely no help whatsoever.  I'd appreciate any help anyone can offer.

Thanks,
Jason

I forgot to mention that we installed the game on my friend's Athlon XP 1900 that uses the same video card, and we achieved the same frustrating results.

GeForce4 & FS2 -- HELP!!!
I have a Geforce3 and have experienced exactly what you are talking about. There are two ways to work around this:

1: Turn on antialiasing - side effect is the funny black lines you mentioned
2: Go into the following directory in Regedit:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Volition/Freespace2

Add in a DWORD value in here called D3DTextureOrigin and set its value to 1. Things should now look just like they did with your old graphics card.

The deficiency here is the lack of antialiasing, which makes the game look far better in my opinion.

Hope that helps. :)

Thanks for your help, that works perfectly!

Thanks,
Jason Machacek

I hate to resurrect dead threads, but...
I've just reinstalled FS2...or tried to.  It seems the damn thing can't detect my GeForce4MX at all  (under setup, and we all know I can't play the game unless it detects my graphics card).  I have the latest patch for FS2 and the latest drivers for my GeForce...or at least, I think I do.  *curses nVidia for not having card specific drivers*  So..er..help?  Please?

Oh, sorry delta, I didnt mean your problem.
Not sure what your problem is, sounds a bit mad.
How much 3D support do MX cards have anyway?
I would have thought it would be enough though.

Do you have problems with any other games?

Oh the MX card has been great!  This is the only game I have that's been screwy...  No idea what the problem is.  I have setup automatically detect my card, but nothing shows up.  It's got D3D and OpenGL support, too...

Not sure. Id find someone else with GF4 MX and see if they have the same problem.

Its not the end of the world if you dont find a solution. People are talking about making a new launcher (ie gfx detector, etc) anyway. So if that goes ahead make sure you get yourself a test copy and that it works on your card.
