Hardly.  Do you really think modern Western society is any less mystical than any other?  We dress up our myths as hypotheses and theories, and obscure them with numbers and data, and tell ourselves that this system of matter and energy is all there is, but really it is no more or less mystical to declare "There is nothing but Nature" than to it is to believe there is more than brute material to the reality we are confronted with.
