Re: Scariest-looking ship ever?
Not really looks so much as the sounds and voice, but generally any Beast ship (Homeworld:Cataclysm)

Not really anything to me in Freespace that is scary. Though, I'd rather not see a Ravana heading my way (is my personal favorite for destroyer-class ships).

Re: Scariest-looking ship ever?
I personally don't view any FreeSpace ship as frightening (except perhaps the Shivan Comm Node, it looks nasty), but still, I sometimes get nervous when approaching a huge ship in a nebula (usually at least destroyer size). So, it's their size, not appearance, that can make you quite scared.
With the rapid increase of FS fan-made campaigns, we're giving the GTVA a harder time with more violence and genocide.

And yet for all it's size and power, I'd give even odds to anything else on that chart vs. it in a head on battle.  The Executor is not nimble by any stretch of the imagination.

Executer still rocks :)

Makes you wonder how many planets they destroyed just to BUILD one of those big ships.

None, a society as advanced as the Republic/Empire would have EXTENSIVE asteroid and Kuiper object mining.  Though it's never seen, I bet they have matter synthesis also.

Re: Scariest-looking ship ever?
SSD isn't 17km long, though using certain estimating methods, FoTG will most likely use an estimate which places it in 12-13km range.
Of course, if you're looking for 17km long Imperial warship, try the Eclipse. It's larger than SSD and even has a Superlaser.

Re: Scariest-looking ship ever?
It's the PCD Saturn from the Proycon Insurgency. Since it has extra turrets, rather than just being a reskin, making a version of it using the new Hades model will probably be rather difficult, if all those greebles are anything to go by.

Which is a real shame, because the Saturn is about the only superdestroyer-sized ship I've ever seen that actually felt like it had adequate point defenses. They should all be that thickly covered in turrets. :)

I went for the bonus points on that mission.  It took a few years off my life.

Re: Scariest-looking ship ever?
Nope, the Executor in the size chart is quite smaller than it actually is.
19 km is it not?

I always wondered if the Inferno team based the Icanus and Gigas on SW superstardestroyers.

Whenever I start feeling the pain from its turrets, I go, "Now THIS is how a proper destroyer is done properly!"

It's sort of like fighting a 15x upscaled Aeolus.

Re: Scariest-looking ship ever?
I remember seeing the Subspace Window open... and not seeing what came out. Its size suggested a Demon or something, that'd be cause for alarm.

And then the front appeared, its size surprising considering the range I was at. Then it glowed... and as it fired, I saw the rest of it enter my screen. My face twisted into a look of horror as I fired pointlessly into it, almost not hearing Command's call to evacuate. I think the fact that the targeting screen just read "UNKNOWN" scared me just as much as how it appeared to me. It was huge, it was powerful, it was RIGHT FREAKING THERE, and nobody knew what it was.

Re: Scariest-looking ship ever?
Lol! I love doing sillies like that in a campaign. The first time I played BP:AoA I managed to actually SAVE the Orestes in that bad dream mission. The luci died, and all ships jumped out. I was left in space wondering "lol, what now?" and couldn't jump out at all.
