I started looking for subliminal messages in WALL-E the first time I watched it. Is that a bad thing?

Oh you still believe in fairy tales like Santa, the Easter Bunny, and free market competition principles?

Quite the contrary, it means you get it.  :p

It has the same "DIS MUUVYE SUX CUZ IT NOT SRS KTHXBYE" reviews that Sucker Punch is getting, but it's another one of those movies you watch to put your brain on sleep mode and see gunfights and explosions. I haven't seen it myself but the Trailer looks like it's worth a watch.

Also it's a Japanese producer (Ghost In The Shell) so there's things like even more crazy aircraft, mecha, dragon things, Sparkle Magic, etc.

I'm guessing that would explain why there's a white girl in a sailor suit with a katana fighting a samurai with a minigun.

Edit: Whoops, misunderstood who produced what movie. Still, what the heck?
Sorry for the confusion, I was explaining Assault Girls. I forgot who did Sucker Punch.

Not everything the critics say should be taken word for word. Even if the critic in question is Roger Ebert, he's bound to have his own take on a film, and hence may not see the film the way its producers meant it to be. Look at The A-Team, for instance. 48% of the established critics on Rotten Tomatoes thought it was good, but 75% of the community thought the same thing.

Seeing the reactions of people on HLP is not a bad choice IMO. There are bound to be a few people you overlap interests with.

Saw this movie yesterday. Loved it. Because I am not in the mood of typing up a full appreciation of it, let me instead link you to Moviebob's review, which explains it better than I could. I should also add that the Soundtrack is ****ing awesome. Snyder deserves a medal for putting Björk's Army of Me in there.

I saw it, loved it, and was blown away by the ending.  "Sucker Punch" is a great title for this movie.

Suckerpunch felt like watching some 2 hour music video on MTV that was sometimes interrupted by what must be the most horrible acting i had to witness this year.

While the action scenes by themselves were done with a high level of technical expertise... the movie utterly fails to properly integrate them into the story in a way that would convey any sense of urgency or suspense to the viewer. The shallow actual narrative and bad acting may also have something to do with it. Which leaves us with an amazingly astonishing feat, which i would not have thought possible before seeing this movie: Ridiculously over the top action scenes... that are utterly boring to watch.

Frankly... I don't know where to begin when listing the flaws of this movie, but what I am certain of is that we have a solid contender for worst movie of the year.

Suckerpunch could described as the product of one of the worst writers on the planet who decided to make a movie after he watched Inception and failed to understand the premise.
When watching Suckerpunch you can get an idea of what the movie would "like" to be...  but it's like a 3 year old trying to retell a complex story.

That people compare this garbage to Star Wars or Ghost in the Shell makes me cringe.

Hot girls

That's about it...  except, way too young? lol

If anyone has seen Idiocracy... they had that silly notion that in the future everyone's IQ would decrease to the point where stupidity runs rampant...  and the newest blockbuster movie in that future was a movie called "Ass"... which involved staring at an actual "Ass" for the duration of the movie which occasionally moved and farted. The audience loved it.

Suckerpunch is very much like that movie, except instead of an "Ass", you have hot girls and explosions.
The  only thing I am still wondering about is whether the actors are really that bad as well or whether they simply had nothing to work with.

A more detailed explanation of why exactly it  does suck so much can be found here: http://www.digitaltrends.com/entertainment/sucker-punch-review/ , here: http://screenrant.com/sucker-punch-reviews-benk-107560/ , here: http://collider.com/sucker-punch-review/82324/ , here: http://www.cinemablend.com/reviews/Sucker-Punch-5162.html or here: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/film/filmreviews/8419362/Sucker-Punch-review.html , or at countless other review sites.

Except nobody here is comparing Sucker Punch to Ghost in the Shell, but rather another movie that is like Sucker Punch done by the same person that made Ghost in the Shell.
Read my posts again, that movie is Assault Girls.

I'm surprised someone was actually invested in the film enough to give it that much thought. It was kinda obvious going in that you were going for Hot Girls and Explosions. Expecting Shakespeare is a little too much.

The movie is about Fanservice, after all.

The problem with trying to excuse it because it's supposed to be for the "lowest knuckle dragging denominator"  is that it does actually does attempt to put on airs as being high concept and thought provoking, it just executes them in a boring and mediocre fashion.  Not to mention that while the battle against the Samurai golem and the raid on the steampunk/zombie/death korps of krieg trench line were visually arresting and well executed the other action scenes were messy visual cacophonies.

You can do a hell of a lot with hot girls and explosions, and as StarSlayer notes, a good portion of the scenes were actually not well-executed. (Though a good portion were.)

Zack Synder cheated with his previous movies by adapting comic books, so the basic art concerns were already more or less done (or he could drag in the artists to consult on them). Here, he reveals that his own artistic capabilities. They're half Alex Ross and half Rob Liefeld. It's kinda...jarring.

Watched the trailer, looked like a mediocre cinematic for a generic action game. Booooring. No thanks.
