G5 and G500 weight caddy compatiblity
I've recently found a Logitech G500 for sale, for a really low price. There's a catch however, it's missing it's weight caddy and tuning weights.
During the search, I've also found that there's a broken G5 available for about 30 cents (with caddy intact), so I'd like to know, are the weight caddies interchangeable between G500 and G5?

Re: G5 and G500 weight caddy compatiblity
Not sure if they're compatible, but they tend to be placed inside a plastic cartridge. Worst case scenario you heat up a scalpel and do some manual modifications of the said cartridge :)
One thing I'd advise when buying a second hand mouse is to test it before buying. Also, inspect carefully the part where the cable connects to the mouse itself - check for signs of chafing there. On some mice this part will wear out after a while and leave you with a unit that intermittently loses contact, and eventually stop working. Had this happen on a G9 - luckily was under warranty. Since you're buying a second hand one it pays to be careful, though.

edit: I just took a look here (go to image gallery, last pic) - I used to own a G5 and that cartridge looks identical to me.

Re: G5 and G500 weight caddy compatiblity
Thanks.
Fixing a cable is not a problem to me, my father did this several times. Most cables on mice we're using are now few centimeters shorter than originally (at least, on good ones, cheap ones tend to fail in other places before the cable wears out).
The one I consider buying also it under a warranty, I may even not need the weights for it (my father tried one of G-series mice, which turned out to be too heavy for him even without weights).

Slightly off topic, but...

I had and still have a G5 mouse, but it's been gathering dust in my closet along with all of my other mice including Razer Copperhead ever since I got my Logitech M570. I use it at work, at home for everything including gaming. I can't imagine going back to traditional mice.

It looks interesting, but I'm not really interested in a mouse you have to charge.

Re: G5 and G500 weight caddy compatiblity
Logitech advertises up to 18 months with single AA battery. I've been using mine for 7 months now and original batteries are still going strong. The only downside is that you need to keep the ball and its surrounding case clean. It tends to gather crap and I clean it up 1-2 times a week. Small price to pay though if you ask me.

Maybe I'll consider it, I'm going to a shop to check out a few gaming mice personally (I'm not going to buy a pig in a poke, especially not for such price).
