hey guys,
 this is my first thread here on the forums (although I've been using FSO for years now), so go easy on me.

I'm playing the Derelict Campaign on 3.6.14 RC5, and whenever ANY shockwave happens in-game, it's like it blacks out everything in it's radius . take a look at the screenie I took of it as an example. can anyone help a noob out here? thanks!

There's your problem. You should try starting the executable with the -no_glsl parameter.
