Hi, I want to play Freespace 2 with the mouse. It's MS mouse, with Intellipoint drivers. In Windows CP, I can set mouse acceleration all to max, but that does not increase the mouse speed in FSO. Currently, I have to move the mouse like 10 meters in order to perform a 360° turn...

Any chance to solve this?

Have you tried cranking up the mouse sensitivity in the game's options ?

Yes, but that only makes the mouse more sensitive, but not faster. In a way it responds faster. But still you have to move the mouse veeeery far.

You do realize that you are limited, ingame, by the rotation speed of the craft you're flying, right ? An Herc won't necessarily do a 360 at the speed you're moving the mouse if you move it faster than it can turn.

I'm sure he has realized the obvious, captain.
What he is experiencing is something I needed a long time to get used to too. Turning with the mouse is simply sub optimal because you gotta move your mouse like a madman to get to your ships maximum turning speed. It always made me feel like there should be an extra amount of dots for sensitivity in the menu for the mouse.

Sounds like your and his windows mouse sensitivity are cranked abnormally low. There's only so much you can do from FS settings if your mouse is set to be slowass in general. Go fiddle with your mouse driver settings.

As for me, I've changed mouses in the meantime (from microsoft blue, to razer abyssus) which helped. But for somewhat more standard mouses Freespace is kinda iffy

Never had any issues with my three 5€ mice. Even with my crapbook touchpad. You're doing something seriously wrong here.

Hmm, I'm knowing the problem from X3 as well, mouse is slower, the higher the resolution. E.g. in X3, I need to move the mouse 5.5cm in order to move it from left to right. Also independent from how the control panel settings are. Seems somewhat like the software has a fixed measure for cm/pixel. More pixels, more centimeters... I also read that in Logitech drivers you can manage this somehow with a per-app setting. Not in MS intellipoint (there's only per-app settings for the scroll wheel).

Which would make sense, at least it would explain why matth had no issues on his 640x480 crapbook with a 5 euro mouse

I also have no issues on both my crapbook (which is 1024x600, btw. This is '04, not '95 ) and my real computer which has a 1920x180 screen, with those 5€ mice. Try again.

I know questions like these always make some confusion. Definitely it's not an easy topic. Both Freespaces (Notebook and PC) turn very slow with the mouse. Both with MS wireless mouse. But on the notebook, turning ships with the touchpad is also slow...

I did a measure: With all sensitivity max (Win + ingame), I have to move the mouse 9cm horizontally for a 360° turn.

This might not be the main cause, but wireless mouse probably doesn't play in your favor. From what I heard, they tend to have bad input lag. I've always used wired mice myself for gaming (mainly because they're cheaper).

I'd have doubts too if I were you. Fortunately for me (and probably all of us), I have very little in common with my fellow Frenchmen.

typical. my logitech g400 with sensitivity cranked to max (3600dpi iirc?) still requires hefty lugging around the table. you might try bumping up the mouse sensitivity settings in the windaz mouse settings in the control panel, but it might not do much, or it might make your mouse fly all over the screen.

Yeah, maybe I'd really use the keyboard also for turning... Will take some time getting used to that many keys, especially if I play on the notebook. At default keyboard layout, the typical WASD idea (plus q and e, all for some kind of navigating) fails here... GOG fortunately delivers a keyboard refcard pdf, that may help.

Do you also think, french are far underrepresented in international (english speaking) www fora world? This is what I observed over the years. If people are getting asked where they come from, theres A LOT Northern Americans, a lot europeans except french. Also I observed, the spanish speakers sometimes insist on speaking spanish, because it's (I don't know) the most or second most spoken language. Soreheads if you ask me... Oohhh, I also play Arma II DayZ mod multiplayer. Maaaaany russians writing russian, insisting on it very rude... My sightings, even if not allowed sightings Ah, and the germans über friendly, thanks ww2 they'll remain friendly for the next 100 decades.

This is what I did for the longest of time too. My right hand switched instantly from mouse to keyboard whenever the engagement went from long to short range.
