I have the same issue and my computer is a piece of crap all-in-one that can't even run LCW or mediavps without massive slowdown.

EDIT: Still won't run on my other decent computer with crappy drivers.

I'm fairly certain that you guys have the same issue as everyone who posted earlier, and that the solution will be the same.

Hi I have a same issue as OP. I also tied the proposed fixes with no effect.
Interesting point is that my Laptop is quite new and modern (I can play Planetside 2 with no problem).
My GPU is GeForce GT 650M

Re: Cannot run Blue Planet mod, help please?
The plan for you guys is to try to find a way to run the mod on builds without deferred lighting.

"-nodeferred" option should be a very welcome addition.
If the deferred lighting is the problem, why it is running almost without fault on my 9650M GT? (not sure as I don't know what the "out of lights" in debug means, yet)
GT650M should have much less problems with it. Or maybe it is driver issue somehow?

Nothing, is what it means. The engine tracks 256 discrete light sources. If the lighting detail level is set to max, each weapon and most glowpoints will act as light sources; if you have lots of projectiles flying around, that'll fill up the available slots real fast.

I just Updated my GPU Drivers and still no change.

I think the problem is the BP build itself as I can run 3.6.14 build without problem, while BP2 build crash even if I have no mod loaded.

P.S I have Win 7 64 bit version if this change anything (probably not :(   )

Re: Cannot run Blue Planet mod, help please?
Yeah, that's what we're saying - your hardware cannot (for whatever reason) handle the deferred lighting code in the BP build, so we're going to try to make new builds that are easier to run.

That was my puzzle. Nobody else did have those. And now I realized, nobody else actually got it working.
And no. My lighting detail is not set to max.

However, I do have one suggestion for Windows+laptop users. Make sure your Power Options/PCI Express/Link State Power Management in your actual power profile is turned off. It sometimes screws up things that otherwise work nicely. Or usually the Max. Performance power plan has it turned off.

So it seems, that 4 years old 9650MGT GPU is easily able to handle it, yet the shiny and new (much powerful) GT 650 M cannot??? Weird idea. Not quite buying it.

The fact is, that it is somehow hardware related. But not in the way that the hardware is too crap to run it (not talking about Intel GPUs and maybe the XT Radeon). There is something else in that. It looks more like OpenGL 3/4 related issue. Because:
-apart from extensions, there were actually some elements removed from OpenGL specs after OpenGL3 and some of them were replaced, like for example GLXCreateContext
-the code might/might not use one of these. if it does, they should work in sort of compatibility mode on OpenGl4.X cards, but god knows, they might as well not
I would start at this place, because simply it seems strange that OpenGL3.X capable card is running it no problem and the newer is suffering...
Or the problem is completely somewhere else.
Which brings me to... Trying to disable GLSL (as for a start)

Tried it (troubleshoot>Disable GLSL (shader) support) - no effect.

I wonder why the Debug build is able to at least load the game main menu, while normal build is not even able to start the game.

Re: Cannot run Blue Planet mod, help please?
Done some digging and maybe found where is the problem for some of you. These may be the root of your problems. Maybe some of you coders should respond???
About ATI cards:
It seems that the swashmebuckles 2400 XT does have a problem with "Unable to find extension "GL_ARB_draw_elements_base_vertex"". Where the table i've found does not say about 2400 XT and OS X, but does say about the 2600 and OS X, so i assume very similar capabilities. It seems that you should circumvent this problem by newest drivers (it actually says that 1.6.26 driver, not exactly yours, does not support it, but the 7.18.11 does, so this extension was added somewhere in the middle i think). Or you should be as of now completely able to run it under Linux or Windows (above 6.14.10.6748).

As for batman55, things could be more complicated. I could say that the X800 seems to be too old to run it. Not sure though, as I mentioned, some coder should have a look at this, I'm not sure which of these things the engine actually uses and which of them are not essentially needed.

It also seems that support for the missing "GL_ATI_shader_texture_lod" extensions was removed at some point from the drivers.

The 4650 and 4570 should run it without a problem, so FekLeyrTarg and knight334 may have problems of different nature. The same goes to mr.WHO.

So, the premature conclusion is, that in the case of ATI GPUs, you should have at least the HD 2XXX series (preferably not in Mac) to run the 3.6.17... build.
It has been known that ATI's OpenGL coverage is somewhat lacking to NVIDIAs, but now I'm quite surprised, how big the gap is.

And for the tables, you might have find them useful sometimes:

Maybe if you post your logs... More logs, more information...

Re: Cannot run Blue Planet mod, help please?
I think there is strong reason to believe that the problem is unfixable with this old CPU.  So I actually uninstalled FS2 Open and BP and all that, it's nothing against any of you folks of course, it's just I have a short attention span and want to move onto something else.

I'd be glad to try FS2 Open BP again, of course, if you folks want to create Blue Planet Lite.  All efforts shall be appreciated.

I'm thinking of getting a new CPU quite soon, anyway.  A $700 Intel Core i5 desktop from Dell is what I'm thinking, and possibly a $150 video card from Asus.  My brother is trying to talk me out of it, but I don't have the money for the whole nine yards.  He thinks the above mentioned choice is not forward thinking for a PC desktop, and it won't run "next generation games" and all that.  But I don't have the money for something better, and I think most games out currently would run at high quality.  Any thoughts welcome.

Why don't you play any of the literally dozens of other super high quality mods that would run fine on your CPU? BP is literally the only one that will have this problem right now.

No no no no no no no D:

You would be throwing your money away. For $850 you can build a really badass rig that would run, I'm thinking, maybe three times as well.

Re: Cannot run Blue Planet mod, help please?
I would like to mention that I have the problem as OP does (I think, it could just have identical symptoms...), I have a GM 965. I do, however, plan to keep playing the game (as I have been) and will continue to give spoiler threads a wide berth, so even if OP has quit it'd be nice if an easy fix was found. :)

Re: Cannot run Blue Planet mod, help please?
Getting back into Freespace 2 and mods is just a few clicks away, of course.  I'd be more than willing to try another mod once I get around to it.  I'm looking for something creepy and unusual, but not so hard that I would be forced to play on very easy.

About building a killer rig for $850, that's doable from a monetary standpoint, but the problem is I don't really have the knowledge or even the desire to do it myself.  You could call me lazy, I suppose.  Stubborn as well--I've always used the prepackaged rigs, it's just what I'm accustomed to.

Any ETA on posible solution? I started to read spoilers of act.3 and I'm starting to regret as I'll know act.3 story before I will even play it.

Re: Cannot run Blue Planet mod, help please?
I'm having the same problem. I have a 2 year old Alienware (I know, I know overpriced) but its got an i5 and nvidia card (not sure which, its got 1 gig though it had just come out when I got it)
