Re: wtf are you listening to? (2013 edition)
I'd recommend Superunknown if you can't manage Badmotorfinger. Badmotorfinger is unfortunately a bit of an aquired taste. But, the first four songs on the album are great (Johnny Cash actually covered "Rusty Cage"). "Searching With My Good Eye Closed," "Room A Thousand Years Wide," and "New Damage" are also good, solid songs. "Drawing Flies" is also great fun.

But yeah, I never gave Nirvana much of a chance due to everyone who either loved them or hated them - now I just pass them off as "stoner pop."

Re: wtf are you listening to? (2013 edition)
i've come to understand that nirvana isn't as bad as i hate them for, i just hate them for how INSANELY overrated they (and in particular kurt cobain) are/were.  #4 on my personal list of most overrated bands in history.  they had a catchy tune or two.  musically, they are as average as rock gets.  and yet they are consistently considered one of the best rock bands of all time.  kurt cobain was put at #7 or something on rolling stone's 100 greatest guitarists list.  eddie van halen was #70.  (ok, i just googled that to fact check and got a drastically different list.  apparently they've made a new one).  i mean, their damn DRUMMER of all people was the most musically talented person in the band.  i also think that kurt had a really bad singing voice, but that's a bit beside the talent point.

edit:  also just discovered cobain is ranked #45 in greatest singers.  wut.
e2:  and smells like teen spirit is apparently the #9 song.

Re: wtf are you listening to? (2013 edition)
I found Alice in Chains' MTV Unplugged at Barnes & Noble today for $4.99. Just can't pass that stuff up, man, especailly when I've been wanting to get this album for quite a while now.

...The only complaint I have thus far is that the mistake of "Sludge Factory" wasn't included. Those little bits of character in live albums makes them all the more special.

Re: wtf are you listening to? (2013 edition)
through soundgarden, rob zombie and velvet revolver now.  all solid, but few songs stood out.  the kind of albums that are kinda a long blur together.  looks like these are bands i'll end up listening to for the sound rather than the songs more often than not.

currently:
Blind Melon - No Rain

holy balls, Seether's album is incredible!  Why in the hell did I wait this long to get it?  This is the best rock album I've heard since The Sound of Madness.

I like Nirvana, although "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is definitely overrated.

I do enjoy listening to Alice in Chains and Soundgarden, though.

I genuinely have no idea considering it's part of a terrible movie soundtrack, but it's a...surprisingly beautiful piano piece. Seriously, work this good does not belong in a movie this bad. It's weirding me out.
