Game Crashes - Great War Campaign
I finally captured the Shivan cruiser and was moving on to the next mission and the game just hung loading it.  Did the debug per the FAQ and it looks like it doesn't like the PVD Typhon for some reason.  I rebooted the game and tried to view it in the tech lab and the game crashed as well (could not find a problem with any of the other entries).  Ideas?

You could try getting the updated Typhon from here?

This is the same link as in the release thread

Sorry for being thick, but I am new to this kind of modding.  I downloaded the patch but am unclear of where to put it or if I need to rename it for it to be of use.  The patch is called FS1_patch.vp but it seems unlikely to me that the game is looking for a new file called that without some direction (and sticking it in my Freespace Port folder did nothing by itself). A little help?  Thanks.

Put FS1_patch.vp into your "games/freespace2/fsport-mediavps" directory.  That should be all that's needed.

Put FS1_patch.vp into your "games/freespace2/fsport-mediavps" directory.  That should be all that's needed.

OK I read that thread and made the folder names as required (which I had somehow overlooked doing) and moved the mediavps file into it. I dropped the FS1_patch.vp file in there as well. Now when I select the FSPort mod it tells me to make the image 255x112 (twice) and when I load the game I still crash on Typhon.

I'm not sure why that's happening.  Can you produce another fs2_open.log and post all of it?

Looks like you have installed the FSPort MediaVPs on top of FSPort - there's mv_fsport.vp in your fsport folder, and the FSPort MediaVPs mod.ini has presumably overwritten your FSPort one.

I'd recommend reinstalling both FSPort and the FSPort MediaVPs, and paying closer attention to the installation instructions this time :P

I felt like I followed 2 or 3 different installation threads, some clearer than others. The http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=76733.0 thread offers an installer that never worked for me.  I'm deleting all the files and installing the fsport from scratch.

Do I just need the fsport3_4 file or do I need all of them?  I reinstalled 3_3 from scratch and restarted the campaign and everything is going ok so far.  Would be nice if I just needed the 1 file.

If you got those files today or yesterday, you only need to redownload the core VP (fsport3_4). The other files should already be up to date. I also suggest checking out the new music package in the Optional Downloads section of that thread (and put it in fsport-mediavps!).

I redid it all and also installed the high res briefings and its like a whole different game. Very impressed.  Thanks everyone who helped.
