Re: Planetary Annihilation
Pretty sure I have this sitting in my Steam wishlist...

Regardless, I just want to launch moons and sh*t at people

That reminds me a bit of Populous The Beginning's planets.

It's a ridiculous concept, making for a ridiculously fun promise of a game!!

Absolutely loved TA growing up so I've been watching this for a while. I absolutely cannot wait to be able to play this.

I got this off GOG (Total Annihilation) many moons ago to see what it's like, but it doesn't work for me... :(

I'll be keeping an eye on this I think.

Re: Planetary Annihilation
there's a reasonably-priced supcom + supcom FA bundle on steam, it's part of the same spiritual series as TA and PA
The good Christian should beware of mathematicians, and all those who make empty prophecies. The danger already exists that the mathematicians have made a covenant with the devil to darken the spirit and to confine man in the bonds of Hell.

What problems did you have getting it to work? TA has a pretty dedicated fan base with a lot of resources (kind of like here), I'm sure someone has found a way to get the game working on newer computers.

Re: Planetary Annihilation
It does work on newer computers; I've been playing it on Windows 7 computers since even before work started on the "4.0" fanpatch.

schrödinbug (noun) - a bug that manifests itself in running software after a programmer notices that the code should never have worked in the first place.

<Aesaar> literary criticism is vladimir putin

<MageKing17> "There's probably a reason the code is the way it is" is a very dangerous line of thought. :P
<MageKing17> Because the "reason" often turns out to be "nobody noticed it was wrong".
(the very next day)
<MageKing17> this ****ing code did it to me again
<MageKing17> "That doesn't really make sense to me, but I'll assume it was being done for a reason."
<MageKing17> **** ME
<MageKing17> THE REASON IS PEOPLE ARE STUPID
<MageKing17> ESPECIALLY ME

<MageKing17> God damn, I do not understand how this is breaking.
<MageKing17> Everything points to "this should work fine", and yet it's clearly not working.
<MjnMixael> 2 hours later... "God damn, how did this ever work at all?!"
(...)
<MageKing17> so
<MageKing17> more than two hours
<MageKing17> but once again we have reached the inevitable conclusion
<MageKing17> How did this code ever work in the first place!?

<@The_E> Welcome to OpenGL, where standards compliance is optional, and error reporting inconsistent

<MageKing17> It was all working perfectly until I actually tried it on an actual mission.

<IronWorks> I am useful for FSO stuff again. This is a red-letter day!

<MageKing17> TIL the entire homing code is held up by shoestrings and duct tape, basically.

Re: Planetary Annihilation
For Supcom/TA/PA fans there is also Spring Engine / Zero-K to tide ya over until PA fully releases.

Bit of a different ruleset, but also very fun. Especially loved the huge team battles with hilarious player numbers that go on on a regular basis in Zero-K.

They also have a hilarious "Chicken" mode... where player cooperatively fight against harder and harder waves of well ...  aliens that kinda look like wierd zerglings of all kinds, except they are called Chickens :P
