Slowdown in certain nebula missions
As the title implies, some of the nebula missions I played suffer from severe slowdowns, even when I set the game details to Low. I haven't installed MediaVPs yet at that time, so I'll do that and see how it goes. My lappie runs FSO (build 3.7, NO-SSE) OK for the other missions; my lappie uses an AMD Radeon HD 7600M with Intel HD Graphics 4000. I run Windows 7 Premium, 64-bit, just in case that's relevant.

The missions I refer to are the ones where there are storms brewing in the nebula, such as "A Game of TAG." Anything I'm doing wrong, or did I miss something? Please help.

Re: Slowdown in certain nebula missions
Your PC will support SSE2, you might as well try one of those builds as they should be faster than no-SSE.

Also, you probably want to check that your laptop is using your AMD card and not the Intel one for FSO, I believe there's something in the Catalyst control centre where you can force a given exec to run in "performance" mode (or similar).

OK, will give that a try. But will my existing profile be deleted?

no, switching to SSE2 won't affect your pilot.  Only switching from pre 3.7.0 to 3.7.0 (& higher) should affect your pilot.

Re: Slowdown in certain nebula missions
Aside the issue of forcing Performance mode, what else could affect my game? Cuz those missions are the only ones giving me problems. I'm just hoping it's nothing major or anything. :P

Re: Slowdown in certain nebula missions
Uhhh, so I still have some problems with those stormy nebula missions. When I played "As Lightning Fall" for example, I suffered rather severe slowdowns and it made it difficult to engage the Shivans in combat. I just updated my AMD driver to 13.152 (according to the Driver Packaging Version) and Catalyst to 13.9.

Should I paste the v11.4 Catalyst atiogxx.dll (did I get that right?) file into my Freespace 2 folder? Please help!

PS: On another note, are the older mods like Awakenings and ST:R compatible with the new build 3.7?

Re: Slowdown in certain nebula missions
Please post your fs2_open.log file.  Instructions on how to do this can be found in this post.

Re: Slowdown in certain nebula missions
Had to add it as an attachment.

Strangely, FPS drops drastically after reaching the Grall. For other stormy nebula missions, this happens from the start of the mission. Why so? :(

Re: Slowdown in certain nebula missions
FSO is still using the Intel HD instead of your ATI. I am not familiar with ATI, but you should be able to force FSO to use your dedicated card.
