Main Hall Crash (FSPort and vanilla) on Windows 8
Like the title says, I'm having trouble getting into a main hall. I'm not sure if there's a better way to explain my issues except to give a big list of information since I don't know what's relevant.

I'm on Windows 8.1.
I have integrated graphics on an Intel chip.
I have the GOG version of FS2, with all required retail .vp files, and two optional ones.
I did not put FS2 in Program Files.
I used the installer that is no longer Turey's, and it installed everything after two runs.
I started with "Launcher" but apparently that has problems with Windows 8, then I went to wxLauncher, but that doesn't give enough information, so I went to the debug version of wxLauncher.

When I run either FSPortmediavps or no-modsFS2 (I have not tried anything else), on a variety of FSO executables, the inital cutscene and profile listing work fine, but when I select an in-game profile it goes to a frame or two of the main hall and then crashes. Also I think it may crash if I try to delete a profile, but I'm less concerned about that.

It seems that wxLauncher is starting FSO successfully, but FSO is crashing.  Therefore, please post your fs2_open.log file.  Instructions on how to do this can be found in this post. That should give us more information on what is causing the crash (although Intel video drivers would be my guess at this point).

Was that with vanilla FSO? It says that it's having trouble loading the main FS2 campaign.

I'm not an expert at debug logs, and I'm on my phone, so someone else should definitely take a look.  But are you sure that was a good install of FS2?

It's trying to load the FS1 campaign, probably because the pilot file was last used with FSPort.

The "main_hall_init()" thing is a warning, not an error. If it appears, you can safely ignore it by clicking "no" rather than "cancel".

Actually Cyborg17, I think there was a problem with my FS2 install, but it may have been unrelated. In any case, I redownloaded and installed FS2 and now FS2 works without FSO, but still not with it.

Ok, I reinstalled everything so now "no mods" actually works. Then I tried the 2014 vps and hit an error before I got past the SCP splash screen (before I could choose an in-game profile). My fs2_open.log is:

You're running 3.7.0. The 2014 MediaVPs require at least 3.7.1. I suggest grabbing a 3.7.2 RC2 build and using that.

Thanks, General Battuta. 3.7.2 RC2 seems to work just fine. I guess in the end my whole problem was solved by reinstalling FS2 and FSO...
