Haven't had much of a chance to play with it yet but I'm definitely going to give it a spin. From the FAQ at least it doesn't seem to have the problems that I loathe in Steam.

GOG Galaxy Client requires Mac OS X 10.8 or newer. Also available for Windows and soon for Linux.

I'm actually wondering if they will have any sort of mod management system.

I know this is probably a pipe dream, but wouldn't it be awesome if various SCP stuff could be distributed through the client, and when you hit the play button have it start the launcher rather than just going into FS2?

This is the right move for them, especially since it's optional.  This adds a lot of helpful structure to Gog and has a good chance of being better than steam overall.

This looks like it has the good aspects of Steam without the bad ones. The whole thing and its various features are optional, and it places control of your games in your own hands. I can't imagine ever seeing that rollback feature on Steam or Origin.

Well I'm on it.  Using it on my better half's macbook  and it seems OK albeit a bit spartan at the moment.  Anyone else trying it out that wants to add me,  just use my email to add.

Is there a way to get it to detect all the games installed?  I seem to have to point it to each game's directory individually rather than just asking for it to look for everything installed to ..\GOG Games\

No idea,  post a report as feedback asking them to include a subfolder  search then you can point it at your root in a later build.

I pointed mine there and got 7 games (there are 14 there) -- and it couldn't detect any of the GOG games I've got in \Games , like FS and FS2, so support for that needs some work.

The auto-detect function apparently only works for games that were installed using the new-ish installers, which were rolled out a few months ago.  There is a way to manually point out games in your library that you want to import though.

BTW, GOG are now offering Saints Row 2 and 3 together for under $10.

I just figured it out last night.  You have to click on the game in your library, then in the More drop-down menu on the game page, go to Manage -> Import folder.  It worked fine for me besides one of the freebie Tex Murphy games, which I think was because it was split into two separate listings recently.
