Hi all :-)

I was watching the video linked below and it appears that the mod features aim assist, which is kinda funky. Is there a way to implement this in other mods/campaigns etc.? I'm thinking it might be an effective workaround to the Thurstmaster HOTAS dead zone problem - it might not matter if you can't aim properly using that thing if the game does it for you. Its not cheating - honest - It's basically what most console FPS games do to overcome the limitations of joypads  ;)

You need to bring this into the AI_Profile for the mission you play: https://wiki.hard-light.net/index.php/Ai_profiles.tbl#.24Player_Autoaim_FOV:

  • Oceans rise. Empires fall.
There is also a per ship version of this:

This works globally and is not player only.
"As you sought to steal a kingdom for yourself, so must you do again, a thousand times over. For a theft, a true theft, must be practiced to be earned." - The terms of Nyrissa's curse, Pathfinder: Kingmaker

"When you work with water, you have to know and respect it. When you labour to subdue it, you have to understand that one day it may rise up and turn all your labours into nothing. For what is water, which seeks to make all things level, which has no taste or colour of its own, but a liquid form of Nothing?" - Graham Swift, Waterland

Indeed, wouldn't be too hard to make a little mod that does that. Fate of the Galaxy uses both of those and it certainly comes in handy for fast paced speeds.

That would be cool, since I have no idea what to do with the previously provided links. When it comes to coding I have the dum  :p

I faced this "problem" too some time ago, here's the thread : https://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=95864.0

Basically you need to create a Tables folder in the Data folder of the mod you wanna play, create an autoaim-aip.tbm and put the values mentioned in the thread above. You have to know the profile name of the campaign you play though, you can easily get it with VPView I think. In my case, I could stack FS1 RETAIL and SILENT THREAT REBORN as 2 profiles in the same table since they both depend on fsport-mediavps to work. The player profile you create doesn't matter, it will apply to all of them.

Thanks for the heads up  :)

At the risk of sounding dumb, how do i create an -aip.tbm? Is it a case of creating a notepad doc with the relevant info copied and pasted and then choosing 'save as' then replacing the .txt with aip.tbm  ?

Any advice greatly appreciated :-)

Safe as txt, than change to tbm. Just make sure that it's not something like .tbm.txt as that can be really annoying.

Thank you for the info. I'm gonner give it a try. You mentioned about using VPView to find the profile name. I'm going to sound like a complete thicko but what is VPView and how do I get it?

Sorry to be a pest, and thanks for the help thus far  :)

Just tried it out with Silent Threat: Reborn. It worked a treat - after I found out how to stop notepad from adding .txt to everything. Thanks for the heads up on that Nightmare  :)

Ok, I found VPV. It brings up a lot of folders and files. How do I use this to confirm the profile name of the campaign? For Silent Threat Reborn there is a FS2 Campaign File called SilentThreatReborn .fc2 is it the names of these campaign files I need?

When entering in the campaign profile name does capitalisation and/or spacing matter?

I was trying it with Bem Cem Cavalgar and had no luck. Is it because it uses more than one Media VP?

Did you manage to get it to work with other campaigns? If so could you let me know how, what the campaign names were etc? Does it matter if the names  are capitalised? is there a list of the correct spellings and names? I am trying to get this to work with all campaigns/mods but I haven't had much luck beyond STR. help

You need to know which
Code: [Select]
$AI Profile: is used in missions (i.e. in *.fs2 files).

Yep, thats right. What was throwing me ws that many campaigns didn't have an ai profile file in their folders. Then Nightmare told me that anything that doesn't have a separate AI profile will default to FS2 RETAIL.I tried it and it appears to work a charm  :)
