This has been my hobby after rendering (which I stopped 7 months ago - I've been taking photos for roughly the same amount of time). The photos you see here are a few macro shots of flora at a nearby botanical garden. Any comments?

Edited them for brightness and contrast, and bumped up the saturation in a couple of places. That's it, I think. (The P31 produces very colour-rich photos, though its CCD doesn't produce quite as much line definition as you would expect from a good 2MP model.) I resized them down from 1600*1200 to their present form because of file size.

Pretty cool. I definitely like the "glowing" one best, but the cactus closeup's pretty nice.

Those are excellent, Steak. Shame you weren't using a good film SLR, though. The cactus is certainly the best, followed by the anthers.

I do flowers too, but only with the film camera. I never could get quite the depth of color, nor sharpness that I wanted from digital.

PM me the name of the botanical gardens so I can go there on my next trip. Oz is the only place I've been that had decent flora that I haven't photographed yet.

Hey, thanks man. Yeah, I chose digital mainly because I don't have the finances nor the facilities for developing. I must say, though, that sharpness is the one thing that suffers on my digicam - though I hope to amend that when I get my next model, which won't be quite as cheap.

Verry nice! the lightbulb-flower-thingy is one of the greatest technical effects shots i've seen (it was wasn't done with photoshop).  I've been meaning to post some of my photography for a while, you don't see any on HLP. I love macro photography before I got my macro lense I used to tape a magnifying lense to my 28-80mm which worked suprisingly well.

there really isn't ant reason to use film I'm a professional photographer and I've used digital for a couple years, with the quality of digital cameras today their much more practical and cost effective than film.

maybe I'll put up some of my stuff later.

I would agree, but for one thing: I haven't seen a digital camera yet that produces an acceptable level of sharpness, nor the complete color range presented by old style film cameras. It gets better as the price goes up, but it never quite gets there.

Thanks dude, I'm glad you like it! Nope, no effects, that's the photo almost entirely as it came out of the camera (resized down, brightness shoved down a little, as it happens). Yeah, I'd love to see some of your shots! By coincidence, Stryke and me posted some shots around the same time... maybe we can start a new trend around here.

I've been found out!! That's exactly what I'm doing right now! I use three 2x magnifying lens and stack them up in front of the shutter. It works like a dream, drops the minimal focal distance right down, and magnifies everything with pin-prick accuracy. Not bad for plastic lenses which cost me a few dollars at the local National Geographic shop, too...
