I have two questions: What's personal text (in edit profile) and is it the same as custom title in profile summary?

As far as I can tell, it gets added to the picture/text section in your profile. Not exactly sure what the point is.

On a side note, I was going through my PMs and had an old one from someone who the database couldn't find, who was shown as having 2^-∞ posts. Excellent touch, whoever put that in.

User does not compute

The only problem is that it's quite silly to have custom titles and personal text. If I can modify my personal text and it shows below my name, why can't I modify my custom title? New users who registered after the move do not get a custom title by default, while everyone else has their old title of Apollo etc.
Ok, I've changed my personal text, let's see what it does...<post>...Nope, it's not shown

Custom titles are awarded either as a reward or punishment for action taken in the community, you cannot assign your own title, only Admins can do that.

I know that. Then it seems that the custom titles like Apollo remained as a side effect of the move, because new members don't have them at all.

As for personal text, mine has read 'What the hell does this do?' since I arrived here, I still haven't found out...

That's what I wanted to know, but it seems that it doesn't do anything ... not that I had anything creative to write under my name.

Yup, looks like the all custom titles were carried over, including things like Apollo.

I don't know if it's due to the time of year or simply a brain fart but I read that to the tune of 'do you see what I see?'

Looks like someone simply tore it out of the style, but forgot to change the setting to show the option to users. Look in the admin panel near 'post options' for 'allow custom personal texts' or something like that.

There was a brief period when users were able to change their own if they had a high enough post count. It was removed because of spammers like Cobra and Ephili, though...

It's rather spurious for everyone to clamour for self-written custom titles anyway. If you can't express yourself in a sig, how the hell do you expect to do it in a title?

Well, writing your own is lame for the very reason you pointed out. Having one given to you is cool, simply because it's kinda like someone else's description of you (the admins' no less!) I mean, I guess you could ask someone to write something about you for your profile but.. no, that's lame too.

Be careful what you wish for.....the custom title you get may just be worse than what you have now :/
