I dunno... but in any case they're not shield generators, they're sensor domes. That they could be destroyed was a result of the bridge shields going down, not the cause. You really really don't want to argue with me on this.

Well, before this gets out of hand, let's have a missile!

Diamond Boron

This is the Sienar model MS-15, a devastatingly powerful cluster warhead that can be fired from most concussion missile launchers. Their only drawback is their tremendous expense, so you'll only be allowed to use them in very limited quantities.

Rumor has it that a long-range, heavily powered artillery varient has been used in some fleets, but these are yet to be confirmed...

How about it?  I know it would push the release date back a bit, but it would considerably augment the campaign's already impressive coolness factor.

But that's not a rumor, right? I mean, you see these being fired in an artillery-like fashion in EAW...

Nah, I don't think so; they're not fired from an extreme distance like artillery is.

Here is a closeup of the first A-wing firing - notice that it's more of an orange blob, rather than the red lines typical of rebel lasers. Also, it's not centered on the cannon, but rather coming out of the slot that most (all?) sources call missile tubes. I dunno about the sound, I couldn't find clear examples of the sound of A-wing lasers. The orange blobs certainly don't sound like X-wing lasers.

As to how many are fired, check this out. That's four in quick succession - I noted as I was watching that they're fired alternating, or you could say in staggered pairs, not that that's relevant for the game really. That fighter fired another two missiles a moment later, for a total of six. I do mean a moment later, I'd have grabbed a screencap of all six missiles but the first two impact as the last two are fired. The next A-wing does more or less the same thing, I can't quite tell if it fires four or six, because it's farther away from the camera when it starts firing. It almost looks like the last pair don't start glowing until the fighter is headed off-screen; perhaps the missiles were ejected, but programmed not to fire thrusters until the A-wing was safely out of the way.

Frame by frame, first fighter:
1: Missile 1
3: Missile 2
5: Missile 3
6: Missile 4
11: Missile 5
13: Missile 6
Each frame is approxamately 1/22 sec.

Don't know if there are any changes made from earlier editions...

They did always seem like lasers to me, but probably due to the rapid ROF.  I will accept that this was likely an entire complement of 6 concussion missiles though, dual fired.  I could see that being allowed, if only due to the fact that you have so few missiles you'd probably not be unloading any more than you needed on a target.  Maybe not _quite_ that fast, if only because of the likelihood of firing more than intended.  However, stronger weapons should probably have a higher fire delay.

Yeah i always thought they were lasers. Can't anyone get hold of a script or storyboard? Just to clear this up. (Also i think the A.wing's the best looking )

Perhaps they are missiles like those fired in Rogue Leader or Battlefront 2?

EDIT: After seeing that part again in the movie, they definitely look like missiles, and if you listen closely, they have a more of a whooshing sound of missiles.

The scene where the A-wing crashes into the SSD's bridge has to be one of the coolest moments in star wars history Big grin. I've tried so many times to replicate that with my own A-wing in XWA in vain

Have you tried Bruno R. Marcos's Battle of Endor? It's rather simpler than XWA, both in look and in gameplay, but if you bring the Executor down to 50% and crash yourself into the bridge, you win. Got to play as an X-Wing, though.

Back on-topic, those of you without a DVD handy might want to watch this Youtube video. The scene in question is near the end of the video, but if you watch the whole thing I think you'll grasp what I mean about the visual difference between lasers and missiles.

As to 'entire complement,' that was hyperbole on my part, in the X-wing games the A-wing carries 12 missiles. I realize that the A-wing seems a bit small to be carrying so many missiles, perhaps these are very small missiles.

Or maybe it's a convenient plot device.

Why should stronger weapons have a stronger delay? What keeps a B-17 bomber in WW2 to drop all its bombs at once?

The fact that only so many bigger bombs can fit through a given area at one time?

Why are bothering with anything in Ep. 6? it's practically non-canon anyway. The enter crew/cast/management WAS on drugs while it was produced.

If they were on drugs while making Ep. 6 I shudder to think what they were on while they were making 1, 2 and 3.
