Thought it was amusing. True, too, humans are always portrayed as weenies next to the big bad aliens.

I have thought of this kind of concept too. I do like the idea of humans being big players in the universe and respected/feared by the other aliens.

Ever since I played Mutant League Football on the Sega Genesis. That game is American Football, but with humans, robots, skeletons, trolls and an alien race. Each race has a bunch of different lines they speak in situations like killing an opponent, scoring a touchdown, etc. And ever since one of the humans said "That was so easy! Us humans are the real monsters in this league!" I've had the idea in the back of my head, a sci fi universe with humans at the top or near the top of the tree. So this is very enjoyable to read for me. :)

This looks similar to the idea that humans are awesome.

Yeah, the "Humanity, **** yeah!" trope is kind of fun. Like a lot of things on the internet, I think people tend to go overboard with it and kind of wear it out. I like the idea of humans in a sci-fi setting having a mix of strengths and weaknesses when put up against other species, rather than just being the middle-of-the-road guys.

Or maybe we're the crazy warrior race, idk.

Yeah, it of course makes sense to begin with the humans in the middle and then start building all the other races around them, but it could be fun to have humans at one of the extremes. Perhaps the largest, physically strongest species.

Sometimes there's a dominant race, imagine it's the humans, stronger, faster, smarter and larger than all the other races with the best ships! :pimp:

A lot of sentient aliens are like humans, as in bipedal, upright. Imagine a universe where humans are the weird ones, and most of the aliens instead of being bipedal are something else, like going around on all fours (or sixes!), or insects, or aquatic, with a few other types thrown in. Maybe humans are the only mammals, which makes us thoroughly weird to the rest of the universe. Imagine mammals are the most disgusting, phobia-inducing species to the rest of the universe! Which of course makes humans terrifying monsters that are the stuff of nightmares!

The Veil of Madness

Always had a soft spot for this story/setting, but I had some trouble digging it up until just now. Good fun. Apparently the savants at /tg have built some manner of game setting around it.

  • Oh no, not again.
Water is the ultimate solvent. It dissolves everything, is highly reactive, corrosive and in a way is the strongest acid and alkaline at the same time. It's not strange that the alien from Alien had acid for blood, it's strange that we didn't!

I actually have read a sci-fi where everyone else was terrified of humanity.

It was called "Mind Pool", and in it all the other alien races of the galaxy were absolute pacifists. Apparently this is the norm, and the fact that humans *gasp* kill other intelligent creatures makes us unique among the known intelligent species and terrifying beyond belief.

Despite this, humanity is in a peaceful alliance with the other species, and on the rare occasion a threat can't be talked down or neutralized and actually needs killing, well, guess who proves to be rather useful?

Humans are SUPERIOR!

I think there was an episode in Old Man's War where the aliens where maybe a couple centimeters tops and the platoon was going around stomping them like Godzilla in their tiny cities.

Why were they doing that?
