*snip*

Explain to me why there's a huge crab-like object in the middle of nowhere, would you?  :wtf:
It's a huge and ugly debris from one of the enemy ships.
Looks like debris from the Nightmare Destroyer model.

Spoon, that looks great. I also am looking forward to WoD 2. :)

Hey guys, dumb question here, how do you take screenshots without the clutter of the HUD/targeting brackets/etc... is there a way to turn this off?

You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar. *adjusts monacle*

Re: A celebration of Freespace
Since I am surrounded by both scholars and gentlemen, here are some random screenshots of my rendition of the First Battle of Neptune, the GTVA and UEF's first major battle in Blue Planet's universe. I am looking for some opinions on my graphics settings. Anything more I could do to spice up my visuals? I have the 3.6.12 MVPs from around WiH's release. I haven't added anything to my FS2 graphics since then.  I am using Herra's custom flags from the wiki.

I am not sure why they are so grainy looking...damnit they look so smooth on my computer  :wtf:

thanks for any advice!

That's likely due to JPEG compression. The more advanced image programs (e.g. GIMP, IrfanView) let you choose the quality you save your JPEGs in; however even at 100% quality a JPEG is still lossy. If not in artefacts, it still tends to lose the more vivid colours. For a fully lossless image, PNG is recommended - larger in filesize, but well worth it. With PNG, your screenshots will remain the same quality as you made them.

And, nice shots :)

or due to postprocessing being enabled, since, if memory serves correctly, film grain is turned a bit on with it.

Re: A celebration of Freespace
Nope, that's definitely some horrible jpg artefacting going on. Also note that we do not use background nebulae in WiH, we use skyboxes. The Neptune box is called "neptune-htsb.pof". To use it, enter that filename in the Background Editor's "Skybox Model" field.

I have tried it, but Neptune is far too distant for my liking in said background. As far as the nebulae are concerned, I just have them in there as eye candy, if I ever distribute the map they surely will be removed to fit in with WiH's motif.

I was trying to get the atmosphere similar to the original YouTube video, which indeed utilizes nebular backgrounds.

Re: A celebration of Freespace
Getting the atmosphere similar to very, very outdated stuff is no good idea IMHO. BP has gone a loooooong way since that vid. Most of what you saw in that vid isn't consistent with what we know of the war and the GTVA and UEF tactics.

No argument here. Just trying to piece together the battle from how I imagine it would be fought from the BP fiction and the UEF and GTVA's lack of knowledge about eachother early on. The only inaccurate aspect is the nebular backgrounds  and size of the sun which I admitted will be removed. Just going for cheap eye candy for the time being, I guess.

It's a BP fanfic. Why should he be restricted in what he can or cannot do?

Hey, we're just giving tips on how to make it fit in better with the existing WiH.
