That has to be powerful if it knocks the ship back that far from recoil.

Not to mention the speed of which it recoils

Re: A celebration of Freespace
Make a dummy projectile that explodes 0.0 s after firing with a massive, non-damaging shockwave, strong enough to move the firing capship and a child which is the proper projectile (with a spawn angle set to 0).

Something like this I created for TotT:
http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=50838.msg1564189#msg1564189

I don't know how to make the recoil push something without rotating it, but the effect is fun nonetheless.

Well, unless the launcher is dead-center-mass of the firing ship, it would rotate it, no?

no because rotation would require a counteracting force on a different part of the ship

Less talk. More pictures. ASW2 is still awaiting one last mission to be finished...

Two words. Wow. Awesomesauce. (Still one word!)  ;)
A small voice in my head tells me they are have followed us here in the Milky Way. They follow us until we are dead at their feet. We are nomands of the stars, no longer the race that was loved by the Great Elders. My name is Kyral and this is my story of survival.

There is no sanctuary for us, in this Universe. We will fight the Terror for one last time on this Shining World. May the Transcendent judge us kindly in the Life Stream.

That is looking great!

Is the first picture an Akrotiri's main cannon equipped with a beam emitter? :nervous:

No, this is the same Akrotiri's trollgun but with new model. Old was a bit ugly.

Awesome screenshots .

What Betrayal said, I reworked the Akrotiri main gun because it did look rather poor.

Re: A celebration of Freespace
Seeing that new gun makes me wonder if it's possible to give a blob turret a warmup glow.
Kinda like the gun builds up a ball of energy and when it reaches a certain size, fires it out.

Re: A celebration of Freespace
It's doable right now, with weapons.tbl and muzzleflash animation hacks.

Playing with a muzzleflash and a dummy projectile with 0 velocity would work if the firing ship is stationary or moving really slowly (dummy projectile triggers the muzzleflash which is a growing blob animation, then the child of the dummy projectile shoots forward, being a blob the size of the muzzleflash).

Other than that some scripting magicians might be able to write something to begin the muzzleflash animation some time before firing the projectile.

What about just a low velocity beam cannon?

Re: A celebration of Freespace
Lol Killer Whale,

While I get what you are probably deducing that from, beam cannons have infinite velocity--they strike instantly.  There is no way around this.  The velocity fields are there simply to appease the whimsical tyrant FSO, and to keep it from flipping epic ****burgers all over your debug logfile.

In retail, they were used for range calculations, before FSO implemented +weapon range: field.
