Maybe it's just me, but I'm not feeling it. To me it looks like the ships are now hunks of dirt that are diffusing into the milky solution that is the emptiness of space.

Yeah, gotta agree with Qent. Technically impressive effect, for sure, but somehow just not so aesthetically pleasing as it maybe ought to be. :|

Re: A celebration of Freespace
The effect does seem strong to me.  I don't know if there's any plans to make its intensity adjustable, but I would personally be more likely to use it myself if it were toned down some, or perhaps made a little less harsh.  It is reminding me of the dust fields in Homeworld right now though, which is pretty cool.

Re: A celebration of Freespace
The effect seems to be suited best for nebula or atmospheric missions. In open space it does look a bit weird, since it definitely gives the impression that there's fog around.

Why do we always have to fight for the destiny of the universe? Or the destiny of a system? Or mankind?
We need to think small-time sometimes.

In this case, I'll present you the inglorious first battle for the Bed of FRED (which is still a big bed, comparised to the Hertak Flagship).

*snip*

You took my idea, I was thinking of doing something like this sometime (though not with a "skybox").

Actually there's an old post (2007 maybe?) of mine where I did try something like this but it wasn't very impressive. :p Yours is much better.
